Technical Reg Updates and New Karting President

CIK-FIA UpdatesA few updates from the CIK including tech regs and the appointment of a new CIK President.

Bahrain’s Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, is the new CIK President, and here’s a quote:

“As the International Karting Commission’s new President, my aim will be to help further shape and define Karting, not just in its traditional geographies, but further afield too. We have a vibrant and hugely important sport, which not only provides a highly accessible entry point for Motorsport enthusiasts, it provides a spring board for racing Drivers of the future, as evidenced by countless former F1 world champions.”

The technical regulations have a few updates. The main thing to note is that the Super KF section has been completely removed, and the KF1 regulations have been made to almost mirror those of KF2.

The brake system for KF1 is now free (does not have to be homologated), as long as it is produced by a manufacturer that has a valid brakes homologation and follows the technical regulations (which ban things like carbon so we won’t be seeing any expensive brake materials).

The regulations on the spark plug are interesting. It seems there have been some teams performing expensive modifications on spark plugs which they must’ve found improved performance. The regulation on Spark Plugs is now:

In all categories except Superkart, the ignition spark plug must be mass-produced and remain strictly original. The spark plug barrel and the electrode insulation (electrodes not included) tightened on the cylinder head must not extend beyond the upper part of the combustion chamber dome.

There’re also a lot of pictures added into the regulations showing what kind of a spark plug is a allowed and what isn’t.
