The opening round of the Rotax Asia trophy took place at the Sepang Karting Circuit in Malaysia on the 20-21st of January. The event proved as a critical test event for several competitors looking towards the Rotax Asia Festival to be held at the same track just one week later.

The opening round of the Rotax Asia Challenge was held last weekend in conjunction with the second round of the Rotax Malaysia Challenge in variable weather conditions with racing action in the dry, damp, and wet conditions. Big grids made for a lot of close racing. View the results and championship standings below.

The Rotax Asia Challenge organisers have announced the start of the season by releasing details on the opening round to be held in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia on the of April. The championship offers 4 rounds of intense competition with the champions earning seats to the 2009 Rotax Grand Finals. Hotel accommodation is provided free of charge for all drivers.

The Asia Max Challenge got underway with the first round being held at the Tengku Mahkota Karting Circuit in Kelantan, Malaysia. Ooi Fei Hoong was the dominant force taking both the DD2 and Senior category wins. Other winners were Muhammad Nabil (Junior), James Lee (Masters), Arjun Maini (MicroMax), and Andhika Sasabone (Cadet).
