The Indonesian National championship kicked off in Sentul last weekend, with Mohammad Afiq taking victory in the Seniors and Kevin Susilo victorious in the Formula Junior category. Senna SN won the Rotax Junior category.
In the Senior category there was a mix of different engines with the main contenders for the win also on different equipment. Afiq was on a Rotax Max engine and set pole position closely followed by Ryan Anthony Manoarfa on a Super ROK engine. The order was the same in Heat 1 with Afiq taking a lights to flag victory ahead of Manoarfa who was struggling with some engine setup gremlins.
Heat 2 was much more of a battle with Manoarfa getting past Afiq into turn 1 at the start of the race, and then successfully defending Afiq throughout the race. With the points after the heats even between the two drivers Afiq’s pole position in the time trials meant he would again be on pole for the pre-final.
In what looked to be a repeat of Heat 2 Manoarfa again shot past Afiq at the start but this time around Afiq had more reason to get past and he eventually made a move stick in the slow section to take the win.
In the final Afiq finally managed to do what he hadn’t managed to do in the past two races: he got a good start and kept Manoarfa behind him. Afiq quickly forged ahead while Manoarfa was yet again experiencing engine troubles and finally the engine broke down forcing him to retire. This left the road clear for Aldi Rizky to take second followed by Nicholas Brian. Aldi however failed post-race scrutineering because he was missing a fuel filter in the carburetor. Nicholas Brian was moved up to second while Stella Aurelia took 3rd.
In the Formula Junior category there was again a mix of engines with Kevin Susilo taking the overall win on his KF3 followed by Philopez Armand also on a KF3. After these two came Senna SN in 3rd and Silvano Christian in 4th. Senna and Silvano were on Rotax Max engines, making them the top two in the Rotax Junior category.
