TWO PODIUMS FOR STRATOS MOTORSPORTS IN PEKAN

There was a big turnout for this weekend’s fourth Round of the Rotax Max Challenge 2011. The event was held in Pekan, Pahang – just under an hour south of Kuantan. The event comprised races for four classes – Micromax, Junior Max, Senior Max and DD2.

Local team, Stratos Motorsports, fielded one Malaysian driver in the Junior Category – Daniel Woodroof – and an Indonesian driver, Tommy Rizki, in the Senior Category. In addition, Stratos supported four karters from Blackdog Racing in Singapore – Guy Ermer in DD2 category, Rory Elliott in Micromax, Kyle
Blockley in Seniors and Harry Scott in Juniors.

It was a very hot weekend, with the overnight rains not doing much to reduce the daytime temperatures. On Saturday (July 23) the event consisted of qualifying plus one round of heats for Junior
& Senior and two rounds for DD2 and Micromax.

In the qualifying sessions our best result was in the Junior category where Daniel Woodroof came 1st – an inspired drive on the very last lap to steal poll. Rory Elliott drove well to qualify 3rd in Micromax.

Stratos drivers had mixed results in the heats. Daniel Woodroof in Juniors was consistent, coming second in both heats putting him in a good position for the pre-final. Rory Elliott in MicroMax dnf’d in the first heat with a technical problem but came back strongly to finish 4th in the second heat.

In the pre-finals for Juniors, Daniel led from start to finish and Rory in MicroMax drove a sensible race to come in 2nd.

In the final races for all our drivers:

Guy Ermer came 7th in DD2 category.
Rory Elliott came 3rd in MicroMax category (PODIUM).
Daniel Woodroof came 3rd in Junior category (PODIUM).
Harry Scott came 18th in Junior category.
Kyle Blockley came 6th in Senior category.
Tommy Rizki dnf in Senior category.

Stratos Motorsports is delighted to come away from this event with two podium places. Competition was
fierce in all categories and the drivers and whole team worked hard to achieve these results.

Stratos Motosports now looks forward to the 5th and final round of this event for 2011 which will be
held at Speedway PLUS, Subang, September 17/18, 2011.

Woodroof Wraps Up 2011 Championship

All Stars Karting 2011 KF3 ChampionThis weekend was the third round of the All Stars Karting Championship 2011 held at the newly re-opened track at Sepang, Malaysia.

Malaysian team, Stratos Motorsports, was there with Malaysian Daniel Woodroof who competed in the KF3 category.
The KF3 event consisted of qualifying, two heats, pre-final and final – all held under clear sunny skies on Sunday July 17.

Daniel qualified third in a strong field and followed that with 4th in heat 1 and 2nd in heat 2. Unfortunately a technical glitch put him way down the field in the pre-final putting him almost at the back of the grid for the start of the final. But Daniel was not to be robbed of a podium. He drove a great race in the final. A good start got him up to 6th place by the first corner. From there he worked his way through the field to second place and a podium finish.
More importantly, this gave Daniel enough points to clinch the championship title for 2011. Even though there is one more round in September, his lead is unassailable. So Daniel Woodroof is the new All Stars Karting KF3 Champion 2011.

The 4th and final round of the All Stars Karting Championship is scheduled for September 24/25 at Speedway PLUS, Subang, Malaysia.
