CIK-FIA has announced the latest decisions by the World Motorsport Council on Karting and the real interesting decision is that the 2009 Karting World Championships will be held on the 8th-11th October 2009 at the Kartodromo de Coloane, in Macau! This will be the first time that the Karting World Championships will be held in Asia.
The Karting World Championships have been held almost exclusively in Europe. In 1986 they were held in Jacksonville, USA and in 1994 they were held in Argentina. The Macau ASN has impressed the CIK-FIA enough when hosting the Asia-Pacific championships it seems to be able to host the most prestigious karting event in the world. Another decisions taken by the World Motorsport Council is to increase the maximum speed allowed during the new rolling start procedure from the obviously too-low 25kph to a reasonable 50kph.
