Weight requirement for engine class

Postby jonbummer » Tue Oct 13, 2009 2:28 am

hi all

just something to ponder about, have some inputs
then maybe can discuss with Louis if there shld be a change
at his monthly race.

at Plentong track there's monthly race with weight requirement
as follows:

Rotax Comer,Iame,Vortex,Maxter, Sonik, Biland & KF3 (165Kg)
Super-Rok & KF2 (175 Kg)
KF1 & Rotax DD2 (185Kg)
Shifter & Aixro (205 Kg)
*Female 20kg less than male with respective engine.

having that info, let's then see this video
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php ... 669&ref=nf

i would think we can agreed that the power of the Aixro is clearly not
equalised even at 205kg to race with a usual 2 stroke 125cc engine
when it just sprint away on the straight.

my qnn is what would be a better weight requirement for the
monster power engine to race equally with 125cc?

but then we may have to even have ask if it's even possible to race
equally with such great power output parity...
during race, it can be really frustrating.
it's like racing with a kart with KERS on it...

i love racing because it shld be about driver, engine setup, chassis setup etc
and not mainly on horsepower. and it just got me thinking something, and
the thought of this just bites me

note: the guys on the Aixro are good guys who we can all share a laugh with
so this is all about engine and racing Not driver or personal

cheers

hi Jon, we have had this discussion before - you know the replies i would give.

In fact, I have been arguing for a lower minimum weight on the Aixro.

To date, the event has no scrutiny on engines, no restrictions on mods, no weight balancing between engines, no restriction on engine and tire choice, and multiple slow/fast track configurations .....

I would recommend that you treat the event for what Louis, the track owner intended - a kampung race meant for the local karters to get together and race any engine that they want and to have some laughs together in the spirit of racing.

Malaysia has homologated race series in the form of the RMC and the Yamaha KT100 events which will definitely meet your needs for homologated single-engine racing and I hope with the best intentions that you can find what you are seeking for in these sanctioned and regulated events.

Best Wishes ...

Mark

hey
yup yup we did discussed this before, didn't we?
at length, not to mention too

and we also agreed none of us can do anything to it
except Louis.
some of us will indeed move towards RMC or from Plentong in 2010
(both of us saw the huge bust up on sunday)
but some plans unsure at this stage

i hope u understand my creation of topic is to find out
if there will be a better equalisation of engines across
the field with weight requirement.

because as we can see from
http://www.asiankarting.com/_.../2009_a ... ised-3.doc
louis got some weight correct and some wrong.

we had all put in effort to make the 'kampong race' better,
and with the diff engine weight requirements earlier
this year I think all of us had definitely seen better races
than any other years before.
(which is just 160kg for any and all engines, silly if u ask me)

so with just one more race to go in Nov, shouldn't
we look at the weight requirement and some safety aspect
again?

eg. all race kart participants must have proper race gear
did u see how bad John's arm was hurt last sunday?
:?

and put in better framework so that it encourage more
karters to join us and the old bird like us to have more fun?

because i had seen people who joined for a race or 2 and just leave
for whatever reason and it is sad (think Sam of kart 108)

i was writing this very late last nite
shld my write seems nonsensical or offensive, pls pardon me.
i hope u know i dun mean it.

at the end of the day, this is all maybe in vain for us to better
the race
cos he may not even care.

cheers
