FYI - Baihakki is not a foreigner, he is a Singaporean Malay.
And who says that Singaporeans love to import foreign sportsmen, it is the goal of the government and not Singaporeans in general. We would rather use local Singaporeans and cheer them on even if they lose. We just cheer as we have no other choice, if we don't cheer for these people who represent us, who else can we cheer for? It is not a choice, it is just unfortunate that our government focus on winning. And if you should know, these soccer players are Singapore CITIZENS at the very least. Is Jack McGregor even a Singapore CITIZEN? Will he even be serving the army?
Who says that every Singaporean erupted into excitement when the China people won the silver medal? Just talk to the locals in the coffeeshop or even the common people on the street, they would tell you how "proud" they are that a group of china people won silver medal for Singapore. Talk to any man on the street and 98% of them wouldn't even know who is Peter Edward Gilchrist.
And my last point, if Jack is Singaporean and proud to be, why does he put the scottish flag on his kart and helmet instead of the Singapore flag?
Sure, a half cheer for Jack for having the SIN beside his name at the world final as long as he doesn't screw up. But definitely not a full cheer for not being a Singaporean.
I hope I'll be there next year to cheer for you too.
