Yamaha & PRD Kart Engine

Postby smee » Thu Apr 02, 2009 11:30 am

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie in here. I just want to know what is the different between Yamaha 100cc engine and PRD 100cc that used in City Karting Shah Alam? How much the price of both engine in Malaysia? I live in Melaka and have planning to buy my own kart. No need the racing one coz it's only for hobby.

Thanks.

Hey,

well i dont have any experience on the PRD, however from looking at the citykarting website the PRD is slightly more powerful than the Yamaha.

the yamaha should cost around rm5000 for a brand new electric start engine, and less for a used one. as for the prd dont think you can get them in malaysia, never seen them being sold.

in terms of owning it, i think the yamaha is much better in that spare parts are much more easily available and it is perhaps one of the most used karting engine of all time.

if you are interested, i may be willing to let go of my yamaha engine and a chassis.

Regarding the Yamaha KT100 and the PRD 100 engines. Both engines are identical in that both the parts are interchangeable like Ford and Mazda. With the exception of the crankcase and cylinder all moving parts are the same. So if you buy a PRD you can use Yamaha parts in it and vice versa. Yamaha spare parts are more expensive while the PRD parts are very much cheaper.

For the KKS championship now running, you can buy a Yamaha KT100 SD (Direct Drive) engine and have it fitted with a clutch specially made for the SD engines. This engine is legal for use in the championship. Low maintenance and good response - much better than the electric start Yamaha which will set you back at least RM5000.00 while the SD with the clutch will be about RM3800.00

Yamaha parts are available at KRS Motorsports as well as PRD parts.

Thanks James for the info,,.. :D

Is the price of RM3800 for the brand new of Yamaha KT100SD and includes engine mounting, exhaust pipe, etc.. (ready to run) ? Btw, how much the PRD will cost? Since I'm not participate in any race and karting just a hobby, which one is better for me? And which one didn't cost me too much?

Just for your info, I can't participate in the race because my chassis is more than 5 year. The chassis also have 'welding spotted' even it's only at small area. It's belongs to my father actually but he already stopped from karting.

Thanks.

There's no age restrictions on chassis for racing although they do need to pass scrutineering. But, there's many decent old chassis around which are usable in races and very cheap.
