Yamaha SL Cup Round 3

Postby hanifcd » Fri Sep 19, 2008 12:53 pm

Anyone competing this Sunday? I heard that Alex Yoong's going to compete as well and there are 35 drivers competing this round. I can't participate this round for fasting reasons but I'm going to be there to take pictures :D

yes. We will be there. Racing in the junior category, but I heard that it is the Senior category that will be the one to watch. Lots of drivers and lots of talent. Take some good pictures!

Congratulations to Mitchell Gilbert (Senior) and Bryan Mehta (Junior) for their wins!

I wasn't able to make it to the track... reports are welcomed from people at the track!

It was a brilliant weekend of competitive racing especially in the Junior and Senior classes.

Although the Junior class had only 8 drivers, the racing for the lead especially in Heat 1&2 was nevertheless fast and furious with Bryan, Natasha and Raoul swopping leads not on every other lap but on every other corner. The equality of the engines ensured that driver and chassis set up was crucial to obtain that slight edge for victory, not to mention the feel for carburetor tuning during the race to ensure optimum engine performance.

The senior race was titanic with the top six drivers being seperated by barely hundreths of a second during qualifying. Predicting the winner was difficult as there were so many capable and talented drivers on the grid. The key was to keep touch with the leaders as once you were out of the slip stream in front, it was difficult to catch up. Calvin won the first heat and Mitch won heat 2 on the last lap from Victor and the final. Ryan Mumford proved that he was a capable driver not only in the wet but also in the dry when he caught up with Mitch after being held up in several incidents during the early part of the race. He however ran out of laps and could not overtake Mitch.

Special mention must be made of Alex Yoong who sportingly came to race in the Senior category. This was the first time I have ever seen Alex race competitively in a Go Kart race and he managed to give a very good account of himself. I am sure that for many of our young karters, it was certainly a thrill to be able to overtake Alex in a race.

Overall, it was a good time and from the smiles on everyones faces after the race, it was a competitive weekend of racing and enjoyed by participants and spectators alike. The grandstands were full during the races.

Thanks to the organizers for doing such a good job and providing enjoyable racing and an atmosphere of good spirit during the races.

Franco Reyes, when are you coming, there are only 2 more races left this year

Yes the racing certainly was exciting and the Juniors Heat 2 was something else, watching Natasha and Bryan racing side by side for the whole race without incident was incredible.

It was ashame Mitch was not in the race to add some additional competition and excitment.

I feel sorry for the regular karters who were not there to witness the spectacle as it was certainly how kart racing should be with predicting a winner near inpossible.

Great weekend of racing and thanks to the organisers for putting on a great event.

Hi Mandy. Of course, we never forget Franco. It is always a pleasure to race with him. Will definately see you in Saraburi as we are looking forward to a bright and sunny and not forgetting windy AKOC this year.

The Yamaha class seems to be taking off well providing lots of thrills and excitement and good racing, it is therefore nice to hear that you and Franco will be making it for the last round. It will certainly add an international flavour to the event.

Do PM me if you need any assistance for your trip here.

thanks mike! will see you there. why don't you run also in the yamaha class in saraburi akoc? there is an active yamaha series in thailand, and according to simon, there should be
a big grid in this class. it should be a good race.

We will certainly give it some serious thought. Will have a chat with Aaron. We never thought that the Yamaha engine could provide so much fun and be so challenging on the driver and mechanic.

We have certainly learnt a lot racing this little engine and and we are very glad that that we went with the Yamaha Series. It has been a very low cost series but a huge bang for our buck.

Will let you know if we will be racing with Franco in two classes shortly.
