The PFX08 is coming towards the end with only 2 more driving sessions and 1 physical training to go. The PFX08 boys started the program with so little single seater knowledge and only with some karting skill. The 10 boys age ranging from 15-17 were selected from a 3 day Shoot-Out program in April 2008 started the 08 season in May this year. Many of the regulars in the Malaysian Karting scene would have know them. The 10 boys selected and currently going through the program are:-

5. Masadenal Ali
6. Mohd Afiq Ikhwan Mohd Yazid
7. Mohd Hasif Nor Azmi
8. Mohd Rahami
9. Muzzafar Mustafa
10. Wan Dassila Wan Anuar



These boys has progress under the training of German Instructors from BMW. Agustus Farfus, a BMW WTCC driver has been invited by Petronas at least twice to be part of the training team for the PFX08 boys. Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has been the venue for the trainings. As most of all knew the program is about driver development. So it covers things like driving, race strategy, media, discipline, fitness, knowledge of the car and etc. Basically moulding them to become a complete driver. This opportunity are only given to Malaysian by the Malaysian oil company. There are in total of 8, 3 days weekend to develop them.

The PFX08 program will end on 30/8/08 with a school race an hour before the start of the MME08. Basically, the final school race is one of the support race for the MME. As mentioned their 1st School Race will be held this weekend at the North Track, SIC. I do not know the schedule though but I think the Qualifying and the 1st Race will be on Saturday 16/8/08 and the Second Race will be on Sunday 17/8/08.

Petronas, will select few of these boys (max 3) to drive with their team in the Formula BMW Asia Championship next year.

So for those parents or individuals whom are still wondering what to do, you can come to the Sepang track this weekend and watch the PFX08 1st School Race. Take your junior along as I personally have no doubt that the PFX is a good program to follow. Hopefully by being at the track and watching their fellow karters race, it could boost their enthusiasm and determination to be good at the Kart Track and look forward to be with the PFX program.

The 2 races of the 1st school race will be on Sunday.

On Sunday, the PFX team will hand the boys over to AAM. AAM shall be the party that will run the race for the PFX boys and sanctioned as a national race. Each driver have secured an AAM national novice car circuit racing license. With 4 race events in 2 school races, the boys will qualify for international C license nest year.

Anyway for Sunday 17/8/09 the schedule is drawn up by AAM and it is not published yet. From word of mouth, it shall start @ 9.00am with drivers registration, drivers briefing, qualifying, race 1 followed by race 2, 45 min later. Starting position for the 2 races are determine by the drivers best & 2nd best qualifying time. Best time is for Race 1 and 2nd best time for 2nd Race.

I reckon that there should be out on the track at about 10am. It will be a half track races and shall happen at the North track. 20 laps race each.

This morning the boys were out on track and were playing around with the car set-up. Similar to their karts, after a while some of them got confused. In the afternoon there were simulating the start.

BTW, the boys looks the same as they are wearing the same outfit and the cars they are driving are very much uniform. You have to know the car # to know who there are :-

btw, I hate the idea of running the drivers in identical helmets - unless u have fast eyes, you wun recognise who is who!

PFX MANAGEMENT - why bother abt PR skills when you cannot even let them use their own customised helmets? ( of course, it must be safe in your standards, for legal reasons! ) Drivers are individuals, not robots.....

siki the school is on an invite-basis I believe. If you're Malaysian and race karts in Malaysia and are in the right age group you get invited.

Pistole the series still exists, just not with BMW involvement from next year. They are still planning on using the same cars and running the series next year.
