Front vs back tires

Postby Arai1970 » Fri Aug 01, 2008 5:03 pm

Since I started karting, I have notice that the front tires bald faster than the back. Is this a common phenomenon?
is there something with the setup we should change do so that the tires are run out evenly?

Generally all four tires should wear out evenly, you could check your "hot" tire pressures and you'll probably notice that the fronts have increased PSI or bar more than the rears. You could try running the front with less pressure. Are the fronts worn out evenly across the tire, or is the inside more worn or the outside and such?

Mostly likely the kart has an understeer condition or you are driving too hard into the corners. This will result in higher hot tire pressures and cause the fronts to wear faster than the rears. Lowering front tire pressure may solve the problem but you may also want to widen the front a bit or make adjustments to get the kart to turn in better.

Are the front tires feathered or ripply at all? This would suggest an understeer condition.

Thanks to your advices.
I shall check tire pressure, I'll check it hot this time.
