Would really like to see this class grow as it is cheap to run for whole year. I think all you newbies should come and try. Engine only cost half the price of a Max or 1/3 of a KF.

It seems to be a very interesting series for novices - a sort of half-way house between fun karts and real racing. However, AAM license holders should check with AAM first before they take part. Since there is "no need for AAM license" then this is an unsanctioned race.

It really depends on how strict the AAM wants to be, but I believe the AAM has the right to revoke the racing licenses of those who participate. Sepang would also lose its homologation for kart racing, just like the Shah Alam circuit.

Please refer to AAM on the licensing issue and i'm sure they'll gladly clarify this situation with everyone (instead of listening to certain parties). Better to go straight to the people IN CHARGE.

Just to clear things a little, It's a closed club event, so AAM license holders OR MAM license holders may participate. It doesn't mean if an AAM license is not required, the race is illegal. If anyone bothered to go back to the year 2006 where we had our KKS championship run as a closed club event and no licenses were required. Just a club membership.

Since the organisers were not forthcoming with details then it is natural that speculation would ensue.

Since KKS has been silent on this issue, am I right to assume that another club is involved?

By the way I think it is great that the prize for a club event is a drive in the final round in Japan. I wish we had known about it earlier so that we could have made plans to enter.

Aaron please tell us more about the event. Is it on Saturday or Sunday? Both? What's the entry fee, schedule?

I've requested more information on the event to post onto KartingAsia.com from some I thought were involved in the organisation but haven't received anything. I've only heard things by word-of-mouth. Who are the organisers?

So far I know:

• Yamaha Engine only.
• MAM or AAM License required. No license also ok?
• Trip to Japan. Fully paid? Need an international C license?
• This Saturday or Sunday at Sepang

It sounds like it can be a good series but getting information out there is important.

I got some additional details from Aaron Lim:

Juniors: ages 12-15 (11 with special exemption)
Senior: ages 15+

Engine: Yamaha KT100SEC - Buy new RM5350. Buy used but rebuilt RM4000. Rent: RM500/round.

Chassis: might also be available for rent, but chassis model/make is open and you can bring your own.

Tyres: Bridgestone YJL - cost is RM550/set. Same as used in Japan for Yamaha SL Cup

Cadet: Ages 9-12
Tyres: Yokohoma Cadet Tyres ~RM430

Engine Rental: Free for first 10 to register.


Schedule:
Sunday only is racing: 2 heats and pre-final + final.
Sunday program (scrutineering, licence applications) starts about 8:30.


Saturday the track is open for Free Practice.


Getting the MAM License: Medical checkup at any medical clinic using the MAM Medical form downloadable from mam.org.my. Get License at the track on Sunday (MAM will be there).


For the trip to Japan:
Junior + Senior winners get to go. Need to have AAM license. New kart+engine, tyres, hotel all provided free of charge by Yamaha Japan. Driver needs to pay 50% of the airfare(50% sponsored by the Malaysian side) and mechanic expenses.

From there there is also a chance of being picked up into the Toyota driver development program from which Nakajima came.

Any results from drivers that were there?

I heard about 20 Seniors and 10 Juniors in the race. Lots of familiar faces were practicing on Saturday.

No I didn't. I was there to have a look-see on Saturday though .

It was a very enjoyable weekend with good racing especially in the senior class. There were some minor hitches in the timing equipment but I do believe that most people took it in good spirit taking into consideration that it was a first race for the organizers.

The weather was was intent on everyone using both their rain and dry tyres and there were intermittent showers between qualifying and the finals.

The senior class started dry but finished in the rain and featured some of the top drivers around like Calvin Wong, Melvin Moh, Fahmi Ilyas, Victor Cheong and race car driver Rueban Wong but it was ultimately Ryan(Rainman) Mumford who prevailed in the final after some really tight racing among the top 5 in the initial part of the final.

Results of the top 3 as follows and I do spologise to the cadets as I did not collect the results for the race. I do hope that someone who has got it will post it on the board.
