Ok will do that ? Where are you from Rock ? Might not be close to F1 date as I might need to join the Aston Martin race.

Base in Brunei, before or after F1. I think I will be at spore 1 week before F1 and staying a week later.

Easy for me to change my dates to join the race. Question is sending the kart over.

My friend it will happen soon ! Be patient.

Remember that "sheer brute force" is not the no.1 thing in getting a lot of drivers interested. No.1 is definitely competitive grids, which means no CVT and the like to outspend the competition rather than outdrive the competition. That's why categories like tightly controlled yamaha and rotax are the most popular in the world.

Tonykart: racing in the Aston Cup shouldn't take the previous or next weekend out of the question for a kart race should it?

One key thing to ensure maximum numbers at kart races is to have the date set in stone, and early. This is often very difficult for race organisers to stick to, but when they do then they get paid back by large grids. ;) Not only dates, but also regulations and all possible details as early as possible.

There are at least 3 kart shops in Malaysia that have ready stock for most parts, no need to wait for delivery from Europe.

I just visited the K1 website and have a few views.

I think if the Singapore Motorsports Association wants to increase awareness of motorsports as a whole. Motorsports covers a WIDE variety, like motorbikes, cars, karts. And with K1 series, i'd say they're doing quite a good job, being their first large scale project. The series seem to be promoting most 4-wheel motorsports.

Unfortunately, if they are trying to promote karting, its kind of pathetic. Karting is after all the stepping stone for all car racers as it teaches u the basic dynamics of a vehicle. The K1 series does abit of rental-karting, some car drifting, and organises a carnival. The grand finale will be held in the f1 paddock area soon, and it'll be a carnival to attract the crowd. This is a good thing, as it is good coverage, shouldn't they organise a race kart demo as well? Perhaps Tonykart or Charles Villleneuve can hold discussions with them to do so.

By just presenting to the public rental karts is terrible publicity. I have friends that went for a ride in those rental karts and they come out saying," oh so karting is like that?" It's crazy. Karting is such a high octane sport, and with race karts, its the purest form of racing, and the public is getting the wrong impression: that karting sounds like a lawn mower engine travelling at snail's pace. I hope K1 series organisers can realise that, and with some discussions between maybe Tonykart or Mr Charles Villeneuve, the K1 this year end can pull up their socks and have the public view what kart racing is, and if they want a basic taste of it, rental karts will be there.

Cheers,
formula125

P.S if we are able to have a race organised in the F1 paddock area..... :D who knows.

Ben,

Count me in :D - if it's a Demo, i can bring my kids to join too. i am sure Rick's available too.

If it's a race, need to be Sanctioned, otherwise difficult for Malaysian Racers ( AAM )

ya, a lot of people are saying K1 karting is giving the general public a very wrong impression.

Anyway, anyone knows how K1 will choose the participants for the K1 finale? I took part during second round of the K1 in Feb. Wonder if I will be get into the Finale.

Yeah if it is sanctioned and allows at least Malaysian participation then you might see a fair few drivers taking part. Otherwise you'll only get 1 or 2 that might risk it.

Hi all,

Newbie here, juz stumbled upon this site earlier this evening...

Totally agree with formula125. I attended the event organized in Punggol and was totally disappointed. I get more excited on the little viking that used to be at east coast park.

So many activities vie for our limited attention and $$, more pace needs to be injected to get the spectators' pulses racing!

Cheers!

Check out Karting Edge www.kartingedge.com/forum

They have successfully organised/co-organised a couple of fun-kart and 390cc races. All of their events have been at the Permas track in Johor, but with its closure, they expect to move the events to the new Pelontong track as well as some of the new Singapore tracks that have been built.

The participants are enthusiats interested and looking for an affordable way to experience karting and racing in a crowd. In addition, you have enthusiats joining the events who already own race karts.

You should try out one of their events as it will be a good way to meet with fellow minded people who are also on their fact finding journey.
