Which chassis would you choose? Is it the feel of the chassis? Or is it the whole package of both engine and the chassis that finalise your decision? ie. Vortex Rok / Kosmic ; Rotax max / swiss hutless.

Mixing chassis and engine is never a factor.

There's a massive difference between different models of the same manufacturers.

For example if it's a swiss hutless magic or a new toxic they're completely different.

Are you looking at buying used?

If you use an ROK or a Rotax on a chassis it won't make a difference. The ROK and the Rotax are fairly similar on power. A chassis that works with a Rotax will work with an ROK.

Just a quick one; support for spare parts is one of the major factors to consider. It will do your head in if you cant buy what you need, been there several times.

haha. nah. Just curious. Like in 2007, for the FA runners, the Tonykart / Vortex proved to be a winning combination as it was dominating the races. Likewise for a few years back if i'm not wrong. This combination seems to be really popular on the european grid, i'm not sure for Asia though. haha. And yes i'd say Tonykart is a champion chassis. :D

The Vortex ROK is veeery different to the Vortex KF1.

2007 was the first year of the KF1 category and TonyKart was dominant with their Vortex however this year other engines are a lot more competitive and TonyKart isn't winning everything anymore.

My point was that last year Tony had an obvious engine advantage, this year not so.

That aside it's not worth much to look at KF1 results when looking at a chassis to use in Rotax or ROK. It's not even worth much looking at what's doing good in the Euro Max Challenge for example - the conditions in Malaysia are very different to Europe.

The best place to look is where it will be raced. And then you'll notice that it's primarily the driver and team that makes the kart perform, not the other way around.

And yes Swiss Hutless isn't winning anything in KF1/2/3 racing because they aren't even racing.

I believe the top chassis models from the better brands are pretty similar in capability. The main differences are in the performance of the drivers and mechanics who prepare the engines and set up the karts.

But there may be a significant difference in second hand value of the kart. A used Tony Kart or Kosmic or any winning brand tends sell for a better price than one that does not even bother to enter CIK races.

Yeah any top kart can win with the right driver in it and the right team working on it.

Not so sure about second hand value being effected by CIK events - most people buying used karts have absolutely no idea who Davide Fore or Matias Laine are.

true true. haha. hmm, then how will the different karting venues dictate the choice of chassis for that track? How is it that Asian and European circuits will affect the choice of chassis to race on? haha.

Chassis to me is the single most important thing in a setup. As many who has been racing knows that if you have a good chassis you can save about a second. I remember I have this junior kid who has been driving a particular brand for quite a while and when he went to a testing session he was given a B brand chassis with his old engine and he immediately save a sec. See what a good chassis can do for you so choose your chassis correctly.
