Masters Class

Postby Gary80 » Sat Apr 12, 2008 6:46 pm

I read that next year in the ROTAX max series the age limit for the Masters will be dropped to 26 years, can someone confirm this.

If this is the case it really makes racing tougher for us older drivers having first lost the veterans class then the masters dropping from 35 to 32 and now possibily dropping to 28.

Next maybe they will totally drop masters and just have seniors that would be interesting and have very big fields umm

They did it in the Euro Challenge - not sure if it'll be for all challenges..... I think the they did it because they were struggling for entries in the Euro Challenge for Masters.

This is ridiculous. 28 year olds are barely adults. (That said, most of my friends over 40 are mature enough to meet this criteria either)...

If this change is actually going to be implemented, there should be a handicapping system to recognise the significantly greater sporting achievement to reach the same lap times, if made by older gentlemen.

Despite the apparent ease with which people like John King seem to drive, it does get slightly harder to keep on pace as you age. Certainly there is a massive difference between being 28 and 48yrs.

What about an over 40s section (I prefer "Grand Masters" to "Veterans as in other sports") again as that would cover most of the current Masters and leave a large enough age span between 28-40 years for the "new" Masters definition to populate.

I remember another forum suggesting tongue-in-cheek that the Veterans category should be renamed either Old Foggies or Fat Asses.
