I would think FBMW Asia. It has an excellent concept - tightly controlled spec formula, national and continental championships and the champions get to go to an annual world final.

[Hey, that sounds exactly like a karting concept...]

The world final provides excellent visibility to those who do well - Nico Hulkenberg (FBMW ADAC champion 2005, 3rd in WF) and Sebastian Buemi (2nd in 2005 WF) have already made it to F1 via A1GP and GP2. The 2006 WF champion - Christian Vietoris - has already tasted success in A1GP and seems like a strong candidate for F1.

Winning the WF does not promise a bed of roses but FBMW does seem to open the way to the higher formulae.

in my view:

fbmw: better promotion but very expensive. very good for drivers with big sponsors and hoping for return. the calendar is very good, the best in asia with f1 weekends.

frenault: too much racing in china and promotion is smaller. its much cheaper and the car is better and you can race for teams with links to europe and GP2 Asia teams like ART motorsports (with dams) and M3 (with trident). Under control of afos the championship would or will be better than fbmw.

Lam Pak good comparison.

For non mega-budget drivers 1 year in F Renault followed by one in BMW is a good option.

BMW is good if you have the money, otherwise F Renault.

RocK Speedcar is for ex-F1 drivers really ;). The car really isn't good to learn in. They look like they handle like a truck. Massive HP but no grip, lap times similar to Fbmw around sepang.

Oh wow those SpeedCars look awesome. I hadn't heard of them until now. We have NASCAR here in the States and while it is one of the most popular sports, they do mostly ovals and only like 3 road courses a year. The road course races are the most fun to watch in my opinion. Seeing those big heavy cars slide off corners and bouncing off each other is kinda like a V8 race but not as quick. Wouldn't want to learn how to race in them though, as Mikko said. Very different to a kart and I think by going to SpeedCars you'd be done moving up in your career.

speedcars is for old ladys and retired drivers. a young gun coming from karting in asia shouldnt go directly to those truckies race weekends. single seater in asia is geting good and people much more profesionals.
pop him up if a young kid from asia would batle a giant killer as jean alesi.

fbmw and frenault in asia has a very good level and thats the way to go.

btw miko you drove fbmw once;right? no more single seaters? :?:

Good info, thanks.

Any idea or ballpark figures of how much a season would cost?

Ouch...the FBMW Pacific series is 18 races, so that would be Euro 375,000 for a full season? Very pricey...

budgets are around 800,000 rmb. just 5 or 6 teams: the better are art and m3, then you have the dtm, champ, modena motorsports and ghiasports.
if you want to race frenault i recomend you www.art-motorsports.com or www.march3.com.cn
