Hong Kong Kart Club Championship 2008 – Round Two
Race Report

Date : 16th March 2008
Venue : Diamond Coast International Kart Circuit
Circuit Length : 900m.
Weather : Sunny
Class : Senior A, Senior B, Novice C, Heavy Weight H and Junior.

In the second round of Hong Kong Kart Club Championship 2008, drivers seemed more aggressive to fight for points as the “seats” for Rotax Max Challenge World Final may be increased from 2 seats to 3 seats this year.

This round was the first time to run in anticlockwise direction at Diamond Coast. Under this condition, most of the drivers created their best lap time 9 seconds faster than clockwise direction. It entirely received a good response from drivers, including well-known car racing driver – Mr. Matthew Marsh.

Time Trial

Class A – Lai Wai Kit clocked 41.261 seconds followed by Luca Ferigutti, 41.360 seconds.
Class B – John Lau clocked 41.460 seconds, 0.608 second ahead of Cecil Chong, and followed by Fritz Percy.
Class C – William Chan clocked 43.002 seconds, 0.618 second ahead of Li Kwan Lung.
Class H – Mike Ng clocked 44.538 seconds.
Class Junior – Matthew Solomon clocked 43.498 seconds.

Heat One

Class A - Heat One of Class A was the battle between Lai Wai Kit and Luca Ferigutti, same as the situation in Round 1. Luca overtook Lai in lap 9 and finished the 15-lap race ahead of Lai in a total time of 10:27.899 minutes, 0.312 second ahead of Lai.

Class B – John started at the pole position but spun in lap 1. He tried hard to overtake the field and regain his lead in lap 9. He finished the race in 10:45.938 minutes.

Class C
– William Chan finished the 12-lap race in 8:40.421 minutes, followed by Li Kwan Lung, 6.627 behind of William.

Class H – Alan Mackay finished 12-lap race in total time of 8:59.225, followed by Chan Wai Tong.

Class Junior – Matthew Solomon finished 12-lap race in total time of 8:47.415.

Heat Two

Class A – Heat two was a fight between Vica Chong and Ricky Yau this time. They overtake Luca in lap 3. Unfortunately, Luca had technical problem and was out of the race in lap 5.
At the other corner, Matthew Marsh stopped in lap 11 which was caused by a clash with Cecil Chong.

Lai finished first but was ruled jumped start and penalized with 10 seconds added to his total time. Position dropped from 1st to 3rd.

Class B – John was again in the lead and crossed the finish line in total time of 10:41.891 minutes. He totally stood out ahead of the rest 16.533 seconds.

Class C – Li Kwan Lung, William Chan and Lo Chun Hung kept struggling with each others. At last, William came in first with the total time of 8:48.251, Li Kwan Lung came in second with 0.891 difference from William, followed by Lo Chun Kwan with 3.972 difference from William.

Class H goes to Mike Ng, since Alan Mackay and Chan Wai Tong clashed lap 1. However, Alan Mackay still clocked the best lap time of 44.371 seconds.

Junior – Matthew spun out and stopped the race in lap 1.

Final

Class A – There was still a battle between Lai and Luca in the first 12 laps. In 1ap 13, Ricky (2nd) made a minor mistake which lose the APEX to Lai (3rd). In the meantime, Luca found a good chance to pass Ricky and Lai at the same corner; he climbed from the 4th to 2nd. Luca kept chasing the leader, Vica, and overtook him successfully in lap 16. The third place got back to Ricky from Lai in lap 18. At last, Luca finished first with Vica and Ricky behind.

Class B – John 1st clashed with Cecil 5th in lap 3 and dropped from the 1st to the last of the field. While Fritz Percy started at the last grid but gaining his position along the race and finished first with Michael Wong came in second and Sammy Hui came in third.

Class C – Li Kwan Lung in 2nd grid spun out and stopped at the very beginning of the race. Finally, winner went to William, with Sin Ho Ming came in second and Lo Chun Hung came in third.

Class H went to Alan, with Chan Wai Tong came in second and Mike came in third.
