The 2008 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix is underway!

View the practice sessions live here: http://itv-80.vo.llnwd.net/d1/broadband/f1/simulcastPlayer.html
-You get team radio as well. :D

And live timing to go along with that on formula1.com.

Kimi was well fastest in the first session today, and Ferrari+McLaren had a large gap to the "rest."

2nd practice is going on now.

My "broadband" is too slow! What I get is a series of blurry still photos...

Still, it is an awesome site.

i have been using formula1.com live timing for years now.

i think Ferrari gonna run away in this race. dont look like the Macs can keep up in the long runs..

The live stream from ITV is new this year. Actually it's only meant to be viewed in the UK - if you try going to the live stream through the main site you get blocked.

You have to go directly to the stream (the link I posted).I'm sure they'll figure that out very soon and the direct stream will be blocked as well.

When that happens you can set-up a UK proxy IP address. :D

The stream was very popular (the ITV-F1.com website was down!), so hopefully a live stream will be offered on formula1.com soon as well. They can put advertising around the stream as well to make money. :?

It would be cool if they would make at least the Friday and Saturday streams free - only real dedicated F1 followers are interested in these sessions anyway but I doubt many would pay for them.

Session two Lewis was fastest but still slower than Kimi's FP1 time!

At the friday press conference:
Quote:
Q: (Mike Doodson) You guys are in the best place to judge your fellow drivers. Can each of you please nominate, who, apart from yourselves, you think will be World Champion at the end of this season?
MWebber: Kimi.
GFisi: Probably Kimi.
HKova: No comment.
GF: Heikki, say Heikki.
TimoG: We have to wait and see how the first race goes. You never know who will be on the top but I don't know at the moment. We will see after the first race or two and then we will see which direction it goes. I would say Nelson!
NPiq: I was going to say Timo.

TG: Kimi.
NP: I was going to say Kimi as well.
SB: Obviously we haven't had the first qualifying yet, so it's very blurry, but if you have to pick, obviously the guy who won the championship last year must be the favourite.

Q: Heikki, team mate or compatriot?
HK: Lewis.

:D

Free Practice 3 was crazy. Hope we can see something similar in Qualifying. Nothing as boring as one driver running away with the championship!

Well, qualifying is over. Disasters for Kimi and Webber. BMW / Petronas / Credit Suisse are looking good for plenty of TV exposure...despite Lewis being pole.

Yeh will be interesting to see if BMW really have some genuine pace to challenge the Mclerris, first pitstop tomorrow will tell all :).

Real shame Webber had what looked like a mechanical problem, he's always impressive in qual, especially in AUS.

With kimi in 16 it will be interesting to see if no TC means easier overtaking. A problem for Kimi is that heavy fuel loads might not work so well with no TC - tyres will wear quickly if you can't take care of 'em.

On-Board action is a lot more fun to watch this year. :D

Robert Kubica made a big mistake in his last flying lap but I was so amazing that his laptime was still 2nd fastest and just 0.1 sec to Lewis. BMW seems very fast indeed around the weekend.

I was frightened by Kubica when his left tires touch the grass,it would be a terrible accidents if he have had spined in that high-speed curve.

One thing I hope will be awesome this year - the starts!

No launch/control or TC.. watch drivers on the dirty side struggle ... or maybe have them surprise by launching perfectly :). A few grid changes on the start usually makes for a good race. :D
