Dear Geoff and all others,

The Mojo D2 tyres will be available on tuesday. I was told by the forwarder that the tyres arrived on 7/2 and were to be cleared by the weekend. There are enough tyres for all testing and also for the race. In total 200 sets.

Please call me at 019-3520559 for information on the availablitity on tuesday 12/2.

I dont know much about the D2's but since its a new tyre, you would think they would be sold for more. My advice Rock, is to shoot the bird.

Yes, shoot the bird! He is wrong. In the first place the cost of the D2 from Germany is much more than the D1 due to compound difference. The cost difference from D1 and D2 is about 12 Euros per set. This will work out to be RM57 basing on an exchange rate of 4.80. The D1 has been retailing at RM620.00 per set and add another RM57.00 would push it to RM680.00 per set. In essence I am not raising the price but only to cover for the difference in cost. Dont forget with the increase in cost, I pay higher amount in duties. There is the talk of duty free items for motorsports. Go tell it to the customs!!!! All they said was that the Finance Ministry must send a letter to them to alter their rates etc, etc, otherwise the same rate of duty applies.

You should be aware that custom duties form 50% of the cost of the tyres. Present duty rate is 40% + 10% ST. I am sure you can work it out. How much do you think a distributor will make? Dont forget all the tyres are paid for in cash before shipment.

Some of you may ask why bring D2 when the D1 is cheaper. Rotax was quite specific in the regulations that senior/DD2 class use D2 while the juniors uses D1. If I was to follow this ruling then I would have to stock both type of tyres and police it during the RMC/AMC races. This will be difficult and in view that the D2 tyres are better as well as the junior max are faster, it would be prudent for all to use D2.

An extra RM60 is not much if it would yield better handling, grip and ride. As a compensation to all taking part in the RMC, I will offer a voucher to the drivers who enter and sign up and pay in advance for all the 5 rounds. This voucher is valued at RM250.00 and can be used in exchange for any items sold by Kartmore Racing Services. The voucher can also be used for tyres purchase. I hope this will in a small way give something back to the karters. A formal announcement will be in the web page soon.

We tested the D2 back to back vs Yokohama AAN tyres at Sepang and they are very good. Our best times were Yoko 50.5, D2 50.6 sec.

A significant improvement in grip and consistency compared to the D1. Our best times were set at the beginning of the session and repeated at the very end - after about 80 laps. We are still learning more about the tyres and hopefully we should be able to find another 0.2 sec by playing around with the set-up.

In qualifying conditions we expect the D2 to be about 1 sec faster than the D1...

This sounds very good. :D Sounds like the Mojos (D1) might go from being one of my least favorite tyres to being really good (D2).

The tyres are Yokohama Advan. The compound is AAN.

I agree with Alex. We back to back tested them on an EVX Racer in Australia. Quicker than YGK's and much more consistent. Similar but a little quicker to the MG yellows, although we were getting much more even and cleaner wear on the Mojos. Simliar in driving stylre requirements to the YGK...i.e "Sideways is NOT forwards" If you are running 12psi (cold) or higher to find grip, your problem isn't the tyres...

One other thing - the D2's cost AUD$255 per set in Australia which is MYR 756 at the current exchange rate. We'll be buying all future tyres in Malaysia thanks very much!

They were used for the final in Macau, so they were in pretty good shape.
