ohh. tho you can race and shoot at the same event. phew..

anyway notice from that pic, its using aluminum rims.
wont it buildup heat on the long runs? D1 on aluminum rims, i feel i need to rest them every 5 laps if i push the pace. with mags i can push all the way.

any feedback with aluminum vs magnesium rims with the D2.

OTK mags or the Freeline mags. Aluminiums are great for doing donuts as the tyres virtually melt... :bom:

Oh, there is one other anomoly I have noticed. On Daniel's Tony//Kart Racer we've been getting on average around 200 laps out of a set. Last weekend on the Swisshutless the tyres were totally gone with the fronts through to the canvas after less than 100 laps, whilst delivering relatively poor grip  Both are set up as Junior Maxs so the vast difference in tyre wear is somewhat baffling. Is Sepang considered to be a very abrasive surface?

With the SH Magic on D1 tyres we were always running lots of castor and toe-out to get it to turn-in. Additionally you had to be fairly aggressive on turn-in understeering into the corner (very Alonso at-Renault from a few years ago).

With the D2 and the Magic I really had to turn-in with care to keep the tyres working. If I was aggressive the tyres were shot and performance would drop and I'm guessing wear rate would go up as well. Required a driving-style change to keep the fronts from overheating. I also ran front pressures as low as 7psi cold for longer hot races.

By the way, the fastest D2 lap that I know of was clocked by Rio Haryanto on the Sunday one week before the race. He did 49.4 sec in a Rotax Junior, which prompted me to suggest we would see 48 sec laps in Round 1.

In hindsight I guess he was using his Macau/AKOC Rotax Junior engine for free practice...

100 Laps with a KF2 and then 40 Laps on a Rotax Max Senior at Sepang.

The front brakes on KF2 wore out this tire incredibly and then the rotax max finished it off during running in.

Front Left tire.
