CIK rule changes.

The World Motorsport Council has seen a need to revise some of the rules for the new KF1 and KF3 cateogries. They're freeing up a bit of the technical regulations while tightening up on the homologation regs - no changes to the homologation are allowed to be made during the homologation period - which is great because otherwise every year (or more often), every engine make will update their engines and the old model won't be competitive anymore.

For those that don't know:
KF1 = the new "Formula A"
KF2 = the new "ICA"
KF3 = the new "Junior-ICA."

You can read their full press release here.

Additionally they've decided to introduce a separate "Code of Driving Conduct on Karting Circuits" which will be derived from the FIA sporting regs Appendix L which has the code of driving conduct for car racing.
A bit from that section:
c) curves, as well as the approach and exit zones thereof, may be negotiated by the drivers in any way they wish, within the limits of the track. Overtaking, according to the circumstances, may be done either on the right or on the left.

However, manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers such as premature changes of direction, more than one change of direction, deliberate crowding of cars towards the inside or the outside of the curve or any other abnormal change of direction, are strictly prohibited and shall be penalised, according to the importance and repetition of the offences, by penalties ranging from a fi ne to the exclusion from the race. The repetition of dangerous driving, even involuntary, may result in the exclusion from the race.

It'll be interesting to see what exactly they highlight in the driving conduct for karts. Might include stuff about bump-drafting. :shock:

Actually, it pretty much mirrors what's already in the Code for cars. Essentially, its aim is to allow equal rights for a driver trying to overtake someone. i.e. the driver being overtaken must not close the door. He has to leave enough room for both to take the corner.

Mikko,

Somehow the new classes mimicks MyKart categories....in some ways! :lol:
Why have 300hp when you cannot handle a kart's 30hp?

Will it include stuff on entering the pit-lane that isn't applicable to cars? (raise hand high)
