How many karters in Hong Kong?

Postby Mikko Nassi » Tue Feb 12, 2008 2:40 pm

Hi Guys,

Just wondering, how many drivers are there in Hong Kong?

Does anyone have information such as how many karting licenses were issues last year? Would also be interesting to know how much the scene has changed over the past 5 years - are numbers going up a lot?

How big are the grids at the race events?

There are lots of HK drivers, but not all of them race in HK. Some of the drivers race in mainland China.

About the number of licenses issues last year will have to check with the Hong Kong Kart Club records. What I'm sure is there were a big growth in numbers last year due to the first ever kart circuit in Hong Kong opened last year. I remembered that we had about 150 kart club members attended last year annual dinner.

We have eight rounds last year in Hong Kong, with group A & B (Rotax Max engine), group C & Junior (Junior Max engine), totally about 30-50 drivers each race.
Group race with Yamaha KT-100 engine, and group H which race with Max engine but with a weight limit of 185 will be add in 2008.

We also have ten rounds of club race last year in Shenzhen (mainland China), with group ICA (100cc Reed engine), NCA (ROK engine), Open125 (Rotax max engine) & NCB (100cc Yamaha engine), totally about 30-40 drivers each race.

Then we have China national races for 5 rounds last year, at 5 different places in China. With group ICA (100cc Reed engine), NCA (ROK engine), Open125 (Rotax max engine), NCB (100cc Yamaha engine) & NCJ-A & NCJ-B (100cc Yamaha engine), totally about 50-100 drivers each race.

The number of members has sharply increased in 2007 due to the opening of a new track in Hong Kong.
Over 40 national licenses were issued. It still has potential to grow up as we are improving and aspire to hold international event in the nearest future. AKOC is one of the on-going projects to be discussed.
