Great to see so many karters and the big variety of engines in Sepang last Sunday. It was especially encouraging to see so many newbies in cadets and Rotax Juniors.

We'll be practicing again in Sepang this Sunday (27th). Hope to see another good turnout - it's boring to be running round and round all by ourselves!

Gong Xi Fa Cai to everyone. Taking a break this week because of Chinese New Year. We'll be back at Sepang on 17th Feb to run-in our engines.

The track manager should really make a effort to separate the cadets when there is a big turnout (like last Sunday). I feel sorry for the poor cadets when there is so much traffic. The Juniors, Seniors and RM1's were on D2 while they have to run 60 cc with MRF (I think). The speed differentials are much too high now.

I am sure a simple system would be accepted by everyone, e.g. the first 15 minutes of every hour be reserved for cadets and Yamahas while the rest of the hour would be for "others". That way everyone would get quality track time with safety as the highest priority.

yes for the sake of EVERYONE - this system should be implemented and everyone should be accomodating to accept and obey it.

in australia, this is NORMAL PRACTISE.

I totally agree that cadets and the rest of the karters should practice separately as the speed differential is so great and the last few weekends at Sepang the numbers were so great many times i was nearly taken out by a cadet who just dont seem to have race sense and I feel for those senior karters who are regularly paying out money to repair damage caused by bad driving habits of cadets. Will it take a serious accident and injury before we come to our senses.

I don't think we should mock the cadets, after all most of us were cadets once. They are just starting out in the sport and need the time and space to learn. So the track manager should do something to assist the process.

Alex,

Well said - and from my experience, these cadets learn very quickly and afterall, if they are not keen - they wun be driving their own karts. In my many years of practising, I never had any issues of them surprising me into a unrecoverable situation before.

To be honest, I think they are more petrified by the faster karts.

So, to ease their learning - I have again say, we need to have a reserved driving slots system for the them.

Thats true, in my case the cadet saw a kart on his right and was petrified so swerved to the left (still looking at the kart on the right) with no clue i was passing on the inside.

the track manager

Theres a track manager?
To manage incoming cash?

Im sure cadets will learn fast but this is not the way to learn. We pay 70 Rm track fee so their should be a schedule designed for safety.
This would take several months to initiate if we asked the Management so maybe one of us can develop one for the Manager to place up.

Someone or some company has the contract from SIC to run the kart track, so he, she or it is responsible. Unfortunately the current attitude is "pay your track fee and you can do what you like".

The club has responsibility only when it rents the track for the races i.e. on Saturday and Sunday.

A simple, easily remembered system would be the reserve the first 15 minutes of every hour for cadets, Yamahas and rentals. The rest of the hour would be for "others".

So if a cadet starts at 9:00 and ends at 5:15 he or she will get 9 sessions or a total of 2 hours and 15 minutes of quality track time and plenty of time for set-up changes, coaching and so forth.

It only needs to be done when the track is busy. On other days it will be self-policing, i.e. the fast guys won't go out when there are many slow karts out there.
