Anyone know anything about a new track being built in Malacca?

Found this in an artcile dated 31 May 2007:
Mohd Ali said another project, which would be undertaken by the Malacca city council was a go-kart track near the Ayer Keroh toll.

It will be built on a 14ha piece of land, with a 1.5km-long circuit.

He said a 4ha piece of land nearby would be turned into a shopping venue.

Saw the layout of the new track at Ulu Yam. Looks like a challenging one with slow and fast corners and a long straight. It's almost 1.1km in length and 10m wide. Ground work has started which mean that the construction is starting really soon.

Hei, Mikko... you have the sketch with you right?!

Yeh got the sketch... but my father took the scanner all the way upstairs so I haven't built up the strength to get it scanned yet... and can't do it now 'cause he's asleep ;)... maybe I'll get my camera out.

Layout and the technical drawings for the track can now be viewed in the track database on the Ulu Yam page. ;)

Layout looks good. Bring driving skills to play. Unlike Sepang, Langkawi which is more towards engine/setup.

keep us updated on Ulu Tam. (cool name)

Just wanted to update everyone on the new track at Ulu Yam. The drawings for construction is now finalised. We are filling up the paddock areas and the food court side to the required level. It will then be compacted and left to settle down for awhile.

I think the earliest time for construction of the track proper will take place in November as it will also be the time when the developer is constructing the roads going into the resort and the track. I anticipate that the track would be fully paved and left to season around March 2008.

I have been promised that I will be able to have the first race there in May. So you can look forward to having the RMC Rd3 there on 23/24 May 2008.

Facilities for paddock will be an open carpark for the time being. This track will be used for only 4 years max. In the 3rd year, we will be constructing a new 1.2km track further inside the resort with all amenities/facilities like fixed paddocks , grandstand, pro-shop, dining facilities and a full time management office.

Once that track is completed, the present track will be demolished and make way for bungalow houses. The new track will also house a host of other activities.

At the present moment, the new track called KRS-Erina Karting Circuit will not have any permanent structures. If there are many requests for storage facilities, I may then put a few containers there to store karts on a temporary basis until such time as permanent units are required.

Why have 300hp when you cannot handle a kart's 30hp?

Well, building a track is not that expensive if you have the land already. It becomes expensive when you have to pay for the land cost, level the land and commission an architect to do the design etc. In my case, I have a very understanding friend who shares this passion with me.

The initial track is only the paving of the track and carpark. There are no buildings being built. This will be done only in 4 years time at another track further into the resort.

I have been shoved around trying to get a track to run the RMC series until I am totally fed up with the attitude of the people that I decided that I will build a circuit which I will be in total control. This will benefit all the karters as well as myself to see my vision for the sport being fulfilled.
