i'm not so sure what is the ideal age to learn karting. my son also looks like interested in karting but he only at 4 years old on age. i hear kimi raikonen learned karting at 7. but not so sure any racing school for karting exclusively for kids. my son trained at permas go-kart in jb coz they had karts for kid.

I feel how old is not the issue. IQ of understanding of the Steering, Throttle and Brake then they are ready.

To get them understand early, get them video games. then remote control cars.

the child height play a part too..

My daughter is only 3, I'm planning to buy an electric plastic made car for her to drive before letting her jump into a real kart.
I saw that @ the department store yesterday.
I'll upload the photo here soon........ :D

I think the ideal age to start is when you feel you want to do it, some start very young some start very old, if you feel you want to do it and you are enjoying doing it that is what is more important

I dont think parents should make there children do it so satisfy there own needs the right age is when the child understands what racing is and wants to do it themselves. I dont agree with putting really young children into karts remember this is not a game it is a serious and dangerous sport that people do get killed in

Dear People,

2 and 3 years is way to young,
i think you do not have to be afraid to wait, ok the younger you start the better.... BUT, a child of 2 or 3 is to young to understand racing,
And like some people said here: 6 or 7 is young enough.

BUT! I'm looking with big eyes at this topic, this is real passion! ;)
i started karting in 1994(then i was6), en became 2nd in the belgian championship in 1996(8y old). And i think you have to look at the lenght of the child, and how old he is for his age, its very important to overcome troubles later i geuss...

Ciao !

Hi everyone!

My daughter started at early age of 4 1/2 and she loves it and looks like she's getting fast and fast every time we attend her kart class at Jim Hall Karting school. I bought her a CRG Puffo w/38cc for early starters. I was so happy first time I saw her hand landed on that steering wheel and hit the gas pedal. I would say the more you take them to the race track at early age and watch some races will help them to like it. Everytime I hit the track, she's there with her grandpa and watching. Of course, I need to bring her toys like barbie and other toys stuff so, she can play while on their break time session. I know I can't push her to like it, but who knows? I will always support her and let her decide what sports she will be in. As of now, i am enjoying watching her racing with other kids. I can't wait to see her in Rotax 125 and ICC 125 class someday??? To all the dad's out there good luck and have funwith your kids. Do it with passion and that will lead you somewhere in motorsports. I started my self in RC electric and gas, cars show then Auto Cross then Rally for 6 yrs. then karting. It's a little odd but, I can still use some of my car driving skills in karting. Like I said, do it with PASSION.

Hey Sprinter!

I agree with you 100 % !
And like you say, it has to be fun for the little one to! Because here in Europe in the 90's there where a lot off parent who put there 8 year old in a race, and also beated them to drive faster, that can not be tolarated i think !!
But if your dauther like to drive a 4 1/2, and stil love driving Car or Karts still when she is 9, and still when she is 15 or 16, and even after that, you could spreak about real passion...
I started karting when i was 6, now i'm 20, and i've got my own team and i'm an importer for Belgium, Netherland, and Luxembourg, and i still drive, and i still love every corner, and every lap the same since i started... and i started just the same with my father... and if i ever have a child i will support him/her as wel... even if he/she plays football, or do ballet ;)
But HOPEFULLY it's carsport ;)

Ciao People!

Kristof

I agree that the no.1 thing is to just remind yourself to make sure that your kid is enjoying the karting. Sometimes it seems as if they might enjoy it a lot more if the parents weren't at the track.

The age to start racing in most countries is either 7 or 8 years old.

Yeah - if your kid keeps nagging you to try karting and then after doing a bit of rental karting keeps on nagging for their own kart maybe they want to do it. :D
