I read with interest that you want to mod a Rotax 125. Why? may I ask? Any modification done to the Max engine will render it - non qualified for any of the Rotax Max races held in Malaysia or elsewhere.

Also when you modify your engine you will render it more likely to break down and would cost you a hefty sum to repair it. All engines going to the Rotax races will be examined by us and once it is OK, we will seal the engine and then it can be used for races organised by us.

It would be cheaper for you to buy another engine that will give you better performance than to modify. I cannot think of any races that is being held in Malaysia or another country that will permit modified engines.

Thanks a lot James,

My original intention is to kart at permas and join them for the open competition.

Since their comex 125 engine is so powerful in the straight and i cant catch up v them, there by rendering me with the thoughts of modifying the rotax.

i see i see so its best to keep my engine as it is...

Btw James permas louis said u guys might be coming down next year to hold rotax max challenge event here?

All the more keep your Max as it is...
Might invest in a rebuild if its high on mileage.

Yes, it is our intentions to have a round of the RMC at Permas. I was in Permas about 2 weeks ago to do an inspection of the track. The owners have been told on what to do to upgrade the track to a zone status. As soon as they are able to give a proper drawings of the track plus work has been done, I will arrange for AAM to do a proper inspection. If the track meet the homologation status, then I would definitely put one round there.

2008 will see the races being run in two new tracks. One at Ulu Yam near Kuala Lumpur and the other at Permas if the track is approved.

So my advise to you is to keep your engine standard so that it will qualify for the RMC.

If they are so hard to catch up, why don't u just buy a 100cc direct drive engine and blow they away lol......
I'm sure there's plenty of them lying all over the place unloved and abandoned. Hahah

Sigh i miss the good old 100cc days...

This is what i have for the Max engines

I've seen a company in Germany, Straube Motorsport, i think, offering a modified Max engines called KraussMAX, it has 2 stage modification, each has 34 and 39 hp respectively, don't know where to get the information regarding the engine, maybe www.eurokart.de or google: KraussMAX. But bear in mind that these engines are not legal in most series! And the rebuild intervals is shorten from 50 to 15 hours!

One of the topics i discussed with my mechanics was to put the SuperMAX cylinder and 40mm carbs, i don't think it works, just a joke!

Anyway, you should be able to compromise yourself, you want fast engine, but you have to trade reliability and running cost off, personally i like the way MAX engines are, I've used it for 3 years without any problem (just broke the clutch ancillaries on the flywheel exactly after 3 years), just 1 major rebuild costing me something like US$400. I saw one of my friends with Sonik engines, they are incredibly fast, cheap engines, but you have to rebuild every race, so what's the point!

Yeah I don't see the point of getting a few extra hp if you'll spend more and have it off the track longer - especially if it's not even used for racing.

A word of advice to all of you who plans to follow the line of getting the modified engine from Germany. I know the company and the people running it as well as Rotax. Engines worked by them will have their serial number circulated to all distributors so that we know who is having this type of engines and are barred from taking part in the Rotax Max races. You may end up having to pay more for maintenance and not able to race against others in the RMC.

By changing to a DD2 cylinder will not help the Max to go faster. In fact from past experience, it went slower. As distributor we had to try all forms of modification to check out what's happening in the market. We brought in a conversion kit and found that it did not meet up to the mark.

If you check your max engine to run on the correct jetting as well as gearing it correctly, you will be faster than other so called modified engines. Do not just follow blindly what others do. When in doubt or need clarification do contact me and we will help you to resolve your problems.
