Karting Scene in Thailand

Postby Mikko Nassi » Sat Jul 07, 2007 7:07 pm

What is the karting scene in Thailand like?

I know you guys have a TAG-category in one championship, what is the most popular engine, and what are the most popular chassis being used?

From kartthai.com I've also noticed that there are quite a lot of events going on compared to Malaysia for example. You have a 4-stroke endurance series as well for example.

I saw a TV 30min coverage once in 2006....running at prime time slots 730pm.

They have resepected grid sizes...better than ours and their Rotaxes have mostly radiators on the left. ( ie.external )

Quite a few expat drivers as well plus the regular Mungkongs, Simon racing group etc

Track was Bira if I recall correctly but the TV coverage was very very good plus also many advertising on track.

Wish we have such coverage & support.
Why have 300hp when you cannot handle a kart's 30hp?

Well from what the people i talked to.

Apparently in the Thailand scene, birel is holds top spot. Their support is better as compared to the rest of the dealers. The IAME engine is also extremely porpular there.

I personally tried the X30 before. Comments? WOW! blows the rotax for sure.

That must be XF Racing for Birel in Thailand? I've invited a lot of drivers from there to join in but nobody is here yet. :? ... Martin Stucik has posted about the forums on Kartthai.com so just waiting for people to come over now. :D

mostly CRG, Birel, and gillard win and race here in thailand. we do have some weird frames that come and race sometimes, but its hard to tell if the chassis are any good, because the drivers suck !

no way thailand is the biggest importer of tonykart in asia, there arent that many here. But i would say that there are only like 3 top teams here, and they all using different brands, and none of them are tony kart. But don't u all think its up to the setup and the driver? I drive this weird home made kart, but with good setup i can easily keep up and win against the other good brands.

Sorry i dont have much details. it was 2 years ago when someone told me about it. It was after Simon Tan dealership. I even saw it on Tony Kart website, where they announce Thailand new dealer saying SEAsia biggest importer. Sadly today i cant find it on Tony's site. :?

CRG Asia, I think you miss-read RocK's post :D. He never said he imports Tony.

I think Thailand maybe was the largest importer before -like you said "Simon Racing" used to bring in the Chassis and exported it into other countries in SEAsia as well. Now it looks like he's selling Gillard - no more Tony//Kart.
