Rotax Max Challenge and KKS Round 3, Sepang 21-22 July

Postby Mikko Nassi » Sat Jul 07, 2007 6:36 pm

Who's going?

If you're on the forum and racing let us know!

The cadet grid at the first round especially was really really good! I hope it'll be about the same in a few weeks.

I'll be there and hope to finally get some proper testing in on the Swiss Hutless before the weekend. :D

I'll be there for RMC. I'd also like to use my "funny" Rotax engine in the 125 open races but I guess that depends on if there's enough entries. What's happened to everyone's Parilla engines?

Unfortunately I won't be able to join, due to the clash with the AFOS event in Sentul. I would like to react to John King's post, as what has happened to the 125 open. Whilst I believe it is a good Idea to organize series along side eachother, it has to be made sure that it are not the same competitors running in both classes. Unfortunately the drivers for the 125 open and RMC in Malaysia, are mostly the same people. I still have my 10.000 RM Parrilla engine and only used it twice...... also last winter I was dying to some racing but had to wait from November untill April for the first race. as most championships, RMC, ROK etc need to be run in the summer as they are attached to other championships in Europe with follow up prizes to worldfinals. Fortunately in Malaysia we have two types of wheather, which is hot and very hot, so there is no need for a winterstop. I would really like to encourage the KKS to organize their club races with the 125 Open series in this period. as I believe there are many RMC and other drivers that would like to get some race practice in the winter months, it also spreads the cost a little. Additionally I think it is a real shame the Yamaha class is not running anymore as this was good close racing with the same equipment, for reasonable money. good for father and son, who would like to take up the sport. I feel it is very important that the kart scene in Malaysia get's some new people on board, as it is mainly the same faces for the last few years, it is quite worrying if we look at the amount of cadets.... especially when Malaysia is trying to portrait itself as the Motorsports hub in SE Asia.

I started a thread for discussion on a possible winter series HERE. I agree we really need a race or two or three to fill the big gap.

Hi Matthijs! They really should've taken your needs into account and postponed the AFOS event by a month. Shame you won't be at the RMC.

There's always the classifieds section here :). You might want to wait for a winter series though  .

Agree with you on all your other points as well... new blood is needed :).

Just saw the ASR's from Paul. Looks like the entry is low - the seniors/masters/veterans are all combined. No KKS races - just Rotax and cadets.

Word at the track was that entries don't look too promising. I know that Imran can't make it because he's in Sentul, and so is Matthijs. We do have David Ong coming which is +1. Other than that as Lennon would say "were have all the karters gone?"

btw I heard you were flying last Sunday at Sepang, you should be at the front of the grid with the seniors then.

Maybe if the teams that are actually doing these renting services should make it more publicise. It will really help bring up the interest in the sport is someone now know they don't need to own one to race.

Someone has a funny stopwatch then - I was using my spare chassis and engine and very old hard MRF tyres - my real equipment was still in the container from Indonesia but maybe I looked fast because I was sideways most of the time :-) Doing the real set-up this afternoon.
