A1 Team Malaysia has confirmed that Alex Yoong will again lead the team as number one driver this season. The 31-year-old will be the most experienced driver racing in A1GP this season and holds the joint record for the most caps in A1GP at 40. He is also one of only two drivers to have won races in both seasons held so far. The team unveiled Yoong and its 2007/08 plans at a glitzy media launch in Kuala Lumpa, Malaysia today.
Aaron Lim, 22, who was with the team for three rookie session last season, will again act as the team's main rookie for this season. Both were expected to be confirmed after the pair tested the team's car at Silverstone last week.
Yoong said that the team is aiming to build on the sixth place finish last season, but he is under no illusions about how competitive this season is going to be.
'We've easily been one of the top ten teams in the last two years and have also shown that we have the potential for regular podium finishes,' Yoong said. 'Our goal this season has to be consistency, with top five and hopefully, top three finishes whenever possible.
'Consolidating on our experience from the initial two seasons and continuing to grow together as a team will be the key elements in our pursuit of this. Our competition is fierce this season, with many teams showing improvement, more experienced drivers becoming involved and an overall increase in the professionalism, commitment and competitiveness, so it's going to be a tough challenge for us.
