How do other drivers find the Mojo dry tyres?

In general I like them a fair bit but they do seem to be a few tenths faster when new - which is not ideal for a category like rotax. The YGK tyres were pretty much the same on lap 1 as they were on lap 80.

I also think that the tyres need a pretty extreme setup on the front compared to other tyres I've used for proper front end grip otherwise they have a fair bit of turn-in and mid-corner understeer.

Also I've noticed that they require surprisingly low pressures for the type of tyre they are - I run up to 4psi lower than I would on the Bridgestone YGKs.

Overall as they are now I'd give them an 8/10 when the YGKs were about a 9/10. Good news is that Mojo is coming out with a new version of the dry tyre and have already sent out sets to distributors to test.

Anyone really like the Mojo characteristics?

I dont like mounting the mojos! I think they are difficult to mount because the tire wall is very stiff, and this is also why they work with a low pressure!

when you buy a new set of tires there is a little brochure which says to operate them on 10psi cold

however, seem to think they work better on about 8psi because they heat up incredibly fast.

Mikko is right that there is a new version of the Mojo slicks being tested now by certain distributors in Europe, South Africa, Australia and Asia. The new version is extremely close to to the handling of the YGK with softer sidewalls. Grip wise is better than the current D1. The new version will be called D2 and will be available from January 2008.

For the Rotax classes here in Malaysia for 2008, the D2 will be used. However the catch here will be the D2 would cost more than the D1. The older version will still be in production and Rotax actually recommended D1 be used for junior class while the senior use the new D2. As with all logistic and control problems, I have decided that all classes will use the D2. For this reason, I am bringing in limited number of D1 tyres until the new D2 is available.

Hope this information will be helpful to you all.

So james, from wheb onwards will all classes be required to us D2?

When will the D2 be ready?

Shame that it will cost more... getting the tax cut down would really help things.

looks like MOJO D2 was in development since mid 2006, which didn't reach MOJO set engineering goals compared to MOJO D1.

The D2 will be available for the races in 2008. I have not finalised the dates for the RMC rounds for 2008 but it is likely that the first round will be in February. There is a huge gap of non-activity from mid-September to end of the year except for those going to the World Finals in the last week of November.

I plan to have some activities in early november or december. If I can get the Sandakan kart circuit homologated under National status, then I would like to organise a race there. Its for you guys who have never been to Sandakan to enjoy a different venue as well as taste the lovely and cheap seafood. With Air Asia fares being cheap, a weekend there will help to let you see what the other side is doing as well as letting them see how you guys race. Does that sound good or what?

this sounds completely unorthodox, but try it. on smoother, less abraisive tracks, try going out with around 20-25psi in your mojos, it won't overheat after 5 laps like you would expect, mojos will last forever at high temp. they will feel like dunlops/vegas and you will gain about 8 tenths.

that's what i thought, some people in canada have figured out that secret, and all of my teammates were telling me to try it and i didnt for nearly 2 months. I tried it this past weekend, and in 32 degree celcius, sunny weather, i ran a 20 lap final with 19 psi. didnt fade and the tires felt like they were brand new the whole race

Very interesting information you gave us. I never say no for trying new stuff. Testing is my thing. 8)

Sadly for me, we not use Mojo here. But I'm sure Mojo users reading this gonna test it out..

Thanks
