It's a bit difficult to judge. I was racing in DD2's for the 1st time and we were on a track that was get rubber put down on it at an amazing rate. But, the grip level was very good right from the start - even when the track was green. Right from the off, the DD2's were 1 - 1.5 secs quicker than the seniors and although there were long straights, the D2 tyres would have been a factor ass well.
They also lasted pretty well - I did about 70 laps (long track - 1.3km) on the practice set and they were still pretty good. Same with the race set - they lasted well until the final heat when I destroyed them due to a bad set-up.

So, it will be interesting using them next year - we should get some faster times although I think on the more tyre hungry tracks like KB, we might need to look after them reasonably well.

Hi all.

I,m from sydney australia and we down here are heavilly envolved in a tyre issue. Our karters have used every type of tyre known to man and they are still not satisfied. They are now testing the New Mojo D2's at the moment. What I have read on your forums about these tyres is very good.

Rotax is only one class we have. We have all sorts of engines all on different tyres which is a pain in the rear. We would like a tyre to suit all classes of engines. Do you think that the MojoD2's would fit the bill?

Now what concerns us down here is, what is the cost of these tyres, are they going to be too expensive for us?

What do they cost you over there?

The word from the distributors here is that they are going to be more expensive than the old Mojo's - by about 20% :-( But, some of this is caused by Malaysian import duties so maybe not so bad in Oz.

coops,

if you want cheap, talk to MRF tyres in India. We use their tyres for the open 125 club days. About RM250 a set of 4, thats about $88 aussie. They'll last you a weekend no problem.

For Australia, if I am not mistaken, all tyres are controlled by AKA. They dictate the tyres to be used for any series inscribed. They do this on a either 2 years basis if I am not wrong.

Therefore, for you to get MRF or whatever brand of tyres for a series has to be approved by AKA. On the Mojo D1 or D2, the new Australian Rotax distributor will have to decide if they will be able to offer these tyres subject to AKA approval.

On the Malaysian scene, D2 will be used for all the rounds including Asia Max Challenge. The D2 is on par or better than the Bridgestone YGK. The tyres are more hardy and will last for the whole event except for tracks that are very abrasive. The cost as fixed by the manufacturer is higher than the D1 and with our duty rate would definitely push the retail price up by at least 20%. I will have to see the actual cost for the first shipment which will be in by first week of february. Testing with the new D2 tyres will be available after Chinese New Year to prepare for the first round on March 1/2.

On another issue, BRP-Rotax has increased prices of engines and spare parts by 1.9% even board. With the present exchange rate of euro, all items will go up in prices accordingly. We have not raise prices over here on engines but 1.1.08 engine prices will be up.

Rotax Max junior will retail at RM8800.00 while senior will retail at RM9000.00. Limited stocks will be available in January, 2008 as BRP has to fulfill orders world-wide.

Thankyou for that information James. I'll pass that information on to our guys in Australia.

These MojoD2's seem to be the go. Hpopefully the AKA will adopt them.

Cheers mate

James, do you guys over there have a controlled tyre?

Have you ever used MG tyres, if so what was the difference between them and the Mojo tyres.

Sorry about the questions mate but the guys down here are asking me to find out for them.

cheers mate

Dear Coops,

The MG tyres and the new Mojo D2 is about the same. The MG's used to be better in terms of grip and handling than the old D1 but with the new version D2, Mojo has brought the tyres to the same level playing field.

All RMC and AMC will use the new D2 and that should lessen the complaints from drivers that the Mojo's were horrible. I would anticipate many drivers needing rib guard.

I will be in Miri on Thursday as well as friday. I would very much like to meet up with you- Rock.

The tyres are the last lot that we had over here to make up for a one make race. Next year with all things even, then there should be a 5 rounds RMC in Miri for drivers there and Brunei. If the race is run on the Rotax regulations and approved by AAM, I would be able to offer one seat to the WF for the winner. But the catch is that engines will have to be purchased from us, tyres to be Mojo, all engines scrutineered by us and above all, the track has to be homologated, all drivers with AAM competition licences allowed.

Think about it. RMC is the only race that can offer you a prize for the winner and thiat is going to the World Finals.

Sorry - missed this. We were running normal pressures - so between .6 and .7 but remember we were chasing a set-up all week. track temp was high - 35+ degrees most of the time. Grip level on the track was huige - 400 sets of tyres used on it by the time we did the heats!
