Yeah Aaron same thing next year.

This really does mean a "winter" series could work imo. There's no racing in Malaysia from September to March - That's HALF A YEAR!!!.

Shah-Alam as far as I know hasn't been homologated this year... and same issue with Elite and I guess that's not expected to change next year.

Racing at Shah-Alam would be cool imo... one reason I guess we don't race there for the Max Challenge and never have is because the track is operated by a "rival" series. This is just conjecture on my part though not sure if that's why.

I think its safe to say Rok is a dead series. too bad no action at Shah Alam & Langkawi :?

Does it cost alot to homologate a track? Dont understand why Permas & Miri dont get in the action.

Homologation fees are minimal but to get homologated the track has to comply with the specifications set out by AAM/CIK. That's where the real cost is.

I may have this wrong but gossip has it that the Miri track has to re-do its kerbs before it can qualify.

Elite put down concrete on the run-off area in some corners. Now it seems there is not enough run-off area after the concrete part, so its homologation has been withdrawn.

Shah Alam? It seems they ran a non-sanctioned motorcycle race there, so they lost their homologation.

At this rate we'll run out of tracks by 2009!

The 2008 calendar has been provisionally being dated. I would like all intending drivers to keep a note of the dates and plan your own activities around it. It is not likely to change and we are now submitting to CIK for inscription.

There will be a one off race - Malaysian Karting Championship to be held after Hari Raya in 2008. This will be an International race where drivers from Europe and rest of the world would be invited to come. We are not sure if we will run the latest CIK engines or just the maxs. The venue is TBA as it is left to be seen if the new international C track owned by Kartmore Racing will be completed in time. The target date is August 2008. I hope to have this track ready in time for this first race and likely the WF for 2008 in November.

To answer questions as to why Miri track is not homologated yet, the reasons were the people handling the track appears to be not interested in doing so. There are so many vetted interest parties involved that there seems to be many mountains to climb before we can reach the summit to speak to the owners. I have inspected the track and wanted to have the AMC round there but again after all the "who ha" nothing came out from the people there. I have since given up trying.

On Permas track, it was built without much consultation with AAM and thus certain safety standards were lacking. If they get that sorted out, there should be no reasons that the Permas track be homologated to zone status.

On the other tracks, it has been best answered by Alex Ritchie.

Your right. too many parties involve. everyone wants control. I'm not even sure who's the owner/caretaker now. I do know the real owner is the Miri Government.

Where is this new track location?

The new track owned by me will be located near the foothills of Genting Highlands at a small town of Ulu Yam. This place is famous for its 'Loh Mee'.

The track will be 1100 metres and will be a challenging track for drivers as it has quite a number of turns. There will be a food court adjacent to the track for food, a 24hrs medical centre and holiday bungalows surrounding the track. Rental of the 4-5 bedrooms bugalows complete with furnishing etc is about RM350 per night. There will also be a camping site, picnic grounds by the river etc.

The track itself will be an International C with all the facilities on site. I will inform you all on more details when the time comes. It only takes 30 minutes driving from KL.

Can't wait for the track to be ready :).

I located Ulu Yam on Google Earth... looks like the track elevation will be at about at least ~80m, or is it significantly higher than that? Only have to travel a few km out of ulu yam to get to 200m+ elevation.

30 minutes to Genting Highlands by the Awana back road...

Dang!!! Stop teasing us and get it ready to run at least one round of RMC Malaysia 2008 there. We like Sepang but 4 rounds there is a little too much of a good thing.

With a barbeque and a few beers by the riverside who cares if we won or lost!

All good things comes to those who wait. I have to ask you to wait. Work will start by november on the track works and by december the track should be completely laid. It will be left to cure for at least a couple of months while other construction work will be done for the paddocks, timing room, offices etc.

All in, I hope that the track can be used by June or July. By that time the food court should be up and most of the holiday bungalows should be ready for rental.

I am sure Alex will provide all the beers and Bar-B-Q for our virgin race. I am also looking forward to it. I should be able to give you all a track design sometime in the middle of this month. Part of the area is already levelled and just require some additional work to be done.

So please be patient.

Since we are planning to run RMC and AMC next year our budget is quite stretched.

But I'll pledge a couple of cases of beer for the first race...

great to hear we will soon have another international track in the KLang Valley....James, keep us posted!

I am very hopeful we get Elite back as well as more racing in Shah Alam - for the sake of all karters. Sepang is good but variety is a good equaliser as well.

In regards to Shah Alam losing its homolgation - I am not aware speed trials are held and they are more demo runs. ( as far as I know ) The events are also govt backed.......so I think there's more to just rule bending by those in power than what we see.

The track is well equipped in terms of safety, IMHO.....but we have no racing. Again, we as karters get caught in all this kinda of other ppl's wrangling....

I should play slot cars......on my own track!
