Problem with DD2 is that you don't just have to buy a new engine - you also have to get a new chassis and if the numbers aren't there you don't have anyone to race against, so you're taking a big risk when putting up the money for a DD2. To my knowledge it isn't run as a category on it's own anywhere in south-east asia? Been tried in Malaysia but I think the most was maybe 4 drivers. :? To me the no.1 thing in a category is to have good competition, no matter what engine is used.

Mikko,

Thats very true. Based on the Other Rotax Engine, they are very cost efficient when it came down to moving up your class and finding a more powerful engine. The DD2 class is more complicated and it still requires a completely new chassis to be purchased. And second Hand chassis for this is not in demand also so it is hard to resell it.

But with that being said, i'm confident that in the further when there is more interest in the sport, more people will consider buying a DD2 chassis for this purposes. And not to mention, its lighting fast!

Its great that you people started to talk about DD2 class. In fact for 2007, I was supposed to start this class and have one driver to the WF but as usual in Malaysia, it is very difficult to get numbers.

I understand fully the need to invest in a new kart and engine to start this class. For 2008, I wish to start this class . I have 6 new 2007 engines with me. I will bring in 2 Swiss Hutless chassis for this purpose. I hope CRG and Birel will each bring 2 units each. That way we will have 6 on the grids.

What I propose will be all 6 units will be leased out on 'Arrive and Drive' basis. The driver pays a rental for the weekend. I will charge a small amount for the use of the engines. This is basically to offset maintenance of the engines. The balance of the money from the lease goes to the chassis provider to offset his initial cost to bring in the karts. How about it?

There are several used RM1/DD2 around in KL as well as in Indonesia. I believe the total is about 15 units. If anyone is interested in getting a second hand unit to start, please contact me.

Meanwhile, all of you out there please think about what I have offered. I hope both CRG and Birel will agree to my proposal.

Hmm... Thats an interesting Proposal.

The only problem on my side is that we are based in Singapore. Unlike James or Richard that are based in malaysia which will give them the luxury for attending all the races meets to provide the chassis for anyone willing to do so.

How would you suggest we work this out?

As for a brand new chassis, the rule of thumb is that the chassis will set you back about 1600-2000 RM on top of the price for a usual 100cc kart chassis.

Now that we have people interested in DD2, here is what I propose to do. If CRG and Birel will each bring 2 units in together with SH will be 6 units. I would think a reasonable charge for arrive and drive would be RM2000.00 per race for 3 days. If a driver needs the kart for longer period to practice, a daily charge can be discussed. The catch here would be - The driver MUST commit for all 5 rounds to make it worthwhile for the chassis/engine supplier otherwise its very hard on the suppliers to bring in the equipment and wait for customers.

The driver will have to provide his own mechanics and in cases where he damages the kart, replacement cost will be charged accordingly. Writing off a chassis will be discussed also.

Do you guys think this will work?

Yes i think that is a Good idea. I think that the DD2 class will be very interesting.

But as CRG is located in Singapore as the base, it's hard to constantly go up there to monitor the progress. So probably the best way is to collect upfront for the 5 races for the weekends. for anyone commiting to the entire season. And every additional Practice needed will be purchase accordingly.

As we are in Singapore, it is hard for us to monitor on when the karts were used and when they were not used and collect accordingly.

Though this is not a key issue, its a issue that is worth thinking about first.

Daniel -

I think all other issues on the DD2 working arrangements, finances etc will have to be dealt with through personal emails. I do not think it would be proper to have details splashed out in the forum.

Please email me.

Does anyone have a DD2 for rent for a test session? How much would a one day test at Sepang to learn to drive and feel out the category cost?
