Rotax Max Battery

Postby RocK » Fri Aug 17, 2007 12:35 am

We just got the new Max batteries. I notice its 6.5Ah. Older 1st model was 7.2Ah. Anyone know why Rotax choose to lower the Ah for the newer battery.

So we have batteries with 6.5Ah, 7.2Ah, 9Ah* & 10Ah*
*3rd party battery

Some say using higher Ah gives better performances on the top-end due to stronger sparks.

But I tho Ah mean Ampere Hours, meaning battery last longer, thats all.
Anyone.. ?

For once you had me there. I always have this notion that the higher the Ah, the stronger is the battery. However, before anyone starts to speculate, I have already written to the Technical section of Rotax to enquire for you. I will post it on the forum once I have the answer.

Sorry guys. I plainly forgot about this. I should have followed up with Rotax at the distributor's meeting but just slipped my mind. I will find out about this by this week. I will call them and check although they are on holiday until 7 Jan.

To comment further on the battery issue. The AH is ampere hours and the fiqure denotes the number. The higher the number the better the battery has in terms of retaining power. Therefore if someone uses a 13 AH battery it is obvious it will be better than someone using a 7AH battery.

Although we allow the use of other makes of battery in the RMC/AMC we will ensure that the AH does not exceed 8AH. Thats the max allowed. Rotax use the new Fiaam battery with 6.5AH but was told by them that it is as good as any 8AH batteries available around.

Hope this clarify the battery issue. We will allow use of other makes of battery in 2008 but max 8AH. Please take note all competitor of this ruling.
