Postby pistole » Thu Aug 26, 2010 6:35 pm

- hi.

- have bought and mounted a roof - rack for my car , hoping to use it to transport the Kart.

- has anyone here had experience with this setup ?

- am very concerned about the thing becoming a hood-ornament if not tied down properly.

thanks.

It always looks like a bit of a hassle. I've only had experience with karts inside cars (Nissan Serena, Naza Ria, GMC Safari) and inside a trailer. A car that you can just throw the kart in with the removal of just the rear wheels for example is really quick and easy. Roof racks not quite as easy.

Love the VW pic btw ;).

Done before, but we take off the engine, lighter and easier to lift it to the roof rack. Seems ok for me and my dad. But !! i do not know about the road and traffic regulations especially in Malaysia, so far my dad did not get any ticket for doing this. As what we saw a bicycle of 3 1/2 foot on a car's roof rack seems to be Ok, and the kart only 22 inches in height. 8)

Hi Pistole,

That's a innovative one :D except you need to carry it onto the roof of the car and that is not a easy task to do especially you are tired after a day of karting :( I do transport my son's kart around in a Grand Espace :)

Cheers

Hahahaha, been there done that. Normally people and police will stare at you but no hassle what so ever. I do recommend removing the engine because it gets a bit difficult to settle and pivot with the engine on.
Also, do tie a red rag or flag to notify drivers (as per local ordinances) that you have something tied onto your vehicle and you should be just fine.

Rabbit: YES!! a triton is more than sufficient for carrying a kart. I have literally tried every option possible including making my own trailer and the latter really sucked as it is super difficult to get jpj to accept it and allow it legally on the road (thus it was a ton of money not well spent). The best thing would be to have a really huge van I strongly suggest it.

We used to carry a senior kart on the roof of a Proton Putra in our early days.... Mounted some Thule roof racks and used Thule straps... Quickest kart i've seen in kl :)

Rabbit,

Your concept is ok. JPJ nor police on highway dont care as long as its tied in. What you can also do is remove front bumper, then, lift the back, and sit it on the top of your tail gate. The kart wont move and there is no reason to stop you.

Cheers bro.
