Rotax Series for SGP?

Postby Iceman27 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 10:13 am

Hi Guy,

Hope I'm not jumping the gun here. You had mentioned in the licence thread that there are discussions about hosting a Rotax series in Kartright?

Maybe you could update the community on it's progress & rules?

My question is if I'm in the market for a 2nd hand Rotax Max, what will I need to look for to be able to use that in the series that you are organising?

Cheers!

Hi Iceman,

We are in the very early stages of trying to get a series organized over here. Location is obviously the hardest part but we are talking to a few people who may be able to help us out. Kart Right is one of them and obviously the most convenient for a number of reasons.

I will let you know as we make progress. For right now we are still at the planning stages and have yet to formalize anything with Kart Right.

To answer your engine question. Anyone with a Rotax engine (no matter how old) is eligible to participate in the event. All you need is your Rotax Engine Identity Card (EIC) which comes with every engine. If your engine is Pre 2009 and you dont have your EIC we will re-issue you an EIC free of charge.

For engines 2009 and above with no Valid EIC we will evaluate on a case by case basis.

Once you have a valid EIC you may participate in any Rotax events in Singapore & Malaysia and the 2nd hand value of the engine is increased.

Anyone who would like register for a new EIC please contact my office +65 62764134

Hi Guy,

For clarity, will the EIC be issued "unconditionally" for pre 09 engines or will they need to be taken apart & check by your team for compliances/illegal mods/etc.?

Cheers!

I think the EIC is just an identification - you need to be sure what you buy has not been modified since it was issued otherwise the first time you race it you could be disqualified.
Someone was DQ last season just for using a non-original gasket. Be careful out there - better to buy a recent ex race unit from an established team.

The main purpose of the EIC is to establish the engines credentials quickly. Its like an engine passport. With an EIC we know the engine was purchased legitimately in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia and is therefore able to be used with out financial penalty in any RMC and Rotax invitational events.

The engine seal is a tamper proof wire seal placed on the engine by a qualified engine sealer once it is ready to race. This seal prevents anyone opening the engine with out breaking the seal. It is inspected regularly during the race weekend to ensure the engine has not been tampered with or modified in anyway. It is to ensure everyone is competing with engines as laid out in the engine specification rules.

So it is possible for an engine to have EIC but not 'legal' for sanctioned races right?

Yes. It is even possible for an engine to have a seal as well and still be illegal. Which is why engines are checked after and during race events.
