Rotax Grand Finals 2010 - La Conca, Italy.

Postby Mikko Nassi » Wed Nov 10, 2010 10:51 pm

Team Malaysia is heading over to Italy this Saturday. We should arrive in time to drive down to Otranto and find a place to watch F1!

I'll try to keep you guys updated on the events in Italy - but it all depends on what kind of Internet connectivity I have.

To start things off here's a look at what team Malaysia will look like at the Grand Finals with our Xzuit-sponsored team gear. I probably should've smiled a bit more in the other two shots as well... in the first one I'm grinning from ear to ear!

Greetings from Italy!!!!

I've got Vodafone Internet access now. It's not fast but it works.

The first pictures are being uploaded to theKartingAsia facebook page, try this link to go directly to the pictures.

We were at the track today for registration, and some drivers had a go in the rental karts. Weather is a lot warmer than it was last time the Grand Finals were here - T-Shirt weather during the day!

Heading out for dinner now might update more later.

Thanks Ryan. Yeah really don't want to see the temperatures drop ;)

3g Internet access works well at the track as well. Everyones raffled their karts now and we're just getting seats put in the karts and getting ready for scrutineering.

Sodi kart supplied the karts complete with seat stays, CRG as usual charges for them ;). If anyone noticed from the pictures on facebook the Rotax radiators have a different look to them - and they also have a flap which the driver can adjust to control the cooling.

The new CIK homologated Mojo tyres look like they might be shaped slightly different - might just be my memory. Will have to see how they handle.

I'll upload a few shots from today when we get back to our apartment.

Today's Pictures.

I'll be taking a lot less pictures now that the driving starts. Hopefully I'll be able to upload pictures from others like Ben Leong.

Today was nothing other than getting our karts and scrutineering our race gear. There was a welcome party but didn't have transport to go there this time around.

Pictures including track action from Benjamin Leong.

It seems I may have finally found some pace - need to pull it together for tomorrow.

Afiq has been fast and was running in 6th in his first heat but got roughed down to 15th - and in his second heat starting on the outside means you're lucky to make it through the first few corners.. he dropped a lot of placed and made his way back up but then got knocked down again finishing in 30th. Afiq needs a top-10 or so for a chance to make it directly to the finals which should happen without bad luck.

I had a slow first heat getting a good start but then getting pushed off into the grass ending the heat in 30th. In my 2nd heat I had a clean first two corners making up a lot of places but then had a driver clip me from behind and roll himself - I dropped way down but enough carnage during the race moved me to 23rd and I was actually catching those in front rather than falling back ;). A few changes for tomorrow and hopefully we'll have the pace we wanted at the start of the event!

Silvano had decent pace but bad luck - in his first race his axle moved meaning his brakes were effectively on all race! Andrew Tang has had decent results and is in with a chance of qualifying directly into the finals with a good result.

In the Juniors Akash has had a good run of luck so far scoring a few solid results with a 16th in his first heat - the others having a tough run of luck and lack of pace.

I haven't looked though the results and can't really remember how everyone did - check the results link posted earlier in the thread ;). Good night from Italy.

Careful when you celebrate your race wins. ... DD2 winner in La Conca over did it a bit ;). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8PXAZqMtPc

Malaysian team had a bad run. Afiq had the pace to make the final but had no luck. Gilbert Ang was dead last of the Juniors after being magnetically drawn to every crash it seemed.

Andrew Tang was the last to get into the finals through the 2nd chance after finishing it in 6th - ending the final in 23rd I think.

Thai driver James Grunwell should've finished the final a lot higher than he did. He also got through the 2nd chance - and had a good start in the final but got pushed into a spin and dropped to the very back. He then made his way to ~13th place only to get pushed out again by the same driver!

I only found some pace by the 2nd chance, which is obviously far too late. Had a fun 2nd chance race though - I had some decent speed and was actually able to race and it was the first race in which i didn't lose a lot of time because of a crash. Had some good overtaking and close racing. Even managed to trade some rubber with Silvano. Silvano's 2nd chance race was ruined after a crash bent his tie-rod.

Mikko, you make a fine Male Model :) I couldn't find the Singapore section of the forum to say Well Done to Andrew, he did an almighty job and made us 'Singaporeans' proud. I hope he had as much fun as we had in Egypt last year. Great job Andrew :)
Mikko, maybe if you had concentrated more on your driving and less on modeling things might have been different, :)
Hope to see you all at the Invitational in the New Year, have a lovely Holiday, Peace, Prosperity and Love to all
