This last weekend Stratos Motorsports kicked off the 2012 karting season with a podium
win for Daniel Woodroof in the Junior category at the Rotax Invitational event at
Speedway PLUS, Subang, Malaysia.
This popular event had a full grid or 36 karts in the Senior category, and 33 starters in
the Junior category. Add to that the karters in the MicroMax and DD2 categories, and
nearly 100 karts participated in this event. Stratos Motorsports ran three karters – Daniel
Woodroof (Malaysian) and Rory Elliott (Singaporean) in the Junior category and Tommy
Soebroto (Indonesian) in the Senior category.
Daniel placed well all weekend coming 4th in Qualifying, 4th in Heat 1, 2nd in Heat 2 and
7th in the Pre-Final. In the Final, he lost some places after pushing on the first corner,
but soon made them up and was sitting in 3rd place for most of the race. On the last lap
the first two karts nudged each other giving Daniel the opportunity to overtake one of
them and cross the line in second place. A great start for the 2012 year for him & Stratos
especially considering the tough competition in this event.
This was Rory Elliott´s first race in the Junior category but he did exceptionally well
considering his lack of experience in this class. He started the weekend well qualifying in
16th place and ran mid-pack for most of the From L-R: Rory Elliott, Daniel Woodroof,
Tommy Soebroto weekend. In the final he drove a sensible race, with many karts driving
too aggressively and crashing out, to finish in 14th place. A promising start for him in
Juniors.
Tommy Soebroto faced really tough competition in the Senior category in only his
second year of karting competitively. Like Rory, he ran mid-pack for most of the races,
battling it out with racers with far more experience.
Stratos Motorsports is delighted with this great result to kick off 2012 and looks forward
to Round 1 of the Rotax Max Challenge in Malaysia, February 18-19.
