Press Release – Daim Hishammudin is back on track in overall second place for the running of the Junior championship title in the 2012 Rotax Max Challenge (RMC) and Asia Max Challenge (AMC). Placing second in the Junior category at the fourth round of the Series held at Sepang Kart Circuit, Malaysia on 14 and 15 July, Daim, representing the BHPetrol Racing team, had a pretty solid weekend, finishing no lower than second place throughout the qualifying, heats, pre-final and final. After two disappointing finishes at the previous two rounds due to undesired circumstances, it was a well-deserved boost for the Singaporean as 32 points stand between him and the current championship leader with two more rounds of the Series to go.
Just 0.185 seconds off the fastest qualifier, Daim was second in qualifying out of the 33-driver Junior grid. Daim came in first for Heat 1, but had to settle for second in Heat 2. The pre-final saw Daim finish in second again, determining his starting position for the final. He fought to get to the front, staying close to the race leader and trying to get ahead. Eventually, Daim took the chequered flag safely in second place.
“This round was definitely a great morale booster for me, the team and all my supporters. I started the season with second place in the first round, but the next two rounds saw disastrous outings due to on-track incidents amid other mechanical problems with the kart. I am glad to be back near the top of the leaderboard and I hope things will pick from here. I will keep working hard with the team and doing our best to achieve the desired results,” said Daim.
The Series takes another two-month break before its fifth round to be held on 8 – 9 September at Pekan.
2012 is Daim’s second year in the Junior category – he will be racing in the Rotax Max Challenge Malaysia, Asia Max Challenge and All Stars Karting Series in Malaysia, as well as travelling to Europe for some races to continue gaining exposure and experience from the higher levels of competition there.
