Stratos on the Podium at AKOC with Daniel Woodroof

Press Release: This weekend was the first round of the prestigious Asian Karting Open Championship 2011 held in Macau. The event attracted a strong field of karters not only from many Asian countries but also from Europe.

Malaysian team, Stratos Motorsports, was there with Malaysian Daniel Woodroof who competed in the Formula 125 Open Junior (KF3) category.

The event consisted of qualifying, three heats and a pre-final on Saturday July 2 and the final on Sunday July 3. Despite damp conditions on the testing days running up to the event, the races themselves were held in clear conditions.

Daniel didn’t have a great start on Saturday, qualifying only 8th. And in heat 1, the kart refused to start on the grid so he had to start from the pit lane. However he made his way through the field in heat 1 finishing 10th. As the day progressed, Daniel continued to improve with a 9th place finish in heat 2 and 4th place in heat 3. In the last race on Saturday, the pre-final, he maintained that 4th place, putting him in a good position for the final on Sunday.

In the final Daniel started well, running in the top 3 for most of the race. Then on one corner he was pushed wide and dropped to 9th. He pushed hard in the remaining laps, working his way up to 5th by the finish and a hard-earned podium place.

This is the first AKOC podium for Daniel and Stratos Motorsports and we look forward to many more.

Stratos Motosports is now packing and shipping equipment to round 2 of this event which will be held in the Philippines July 30/31, 2011.
