PLUS YAMAHA SL CUP (MALAYSIAN SERIES) 2010 START THIS SUNDAY

Petaling Jaya, Wednesday: – Come this Sunday, 50 go-kart racers from all over Asia will be pitting their driving skills against each other in the inaugural PLUS Yamaha SL Cup (Malaysian Series) 2010 at the Sepang International Go-Kart Circuit.

The race in Sepang, the first of five rounds of the PLUS Yamaha SL Cup is sanctioned by Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“PLUS Expressways as the title sponsor of the competition aims to further promote go-karting to the public. It is also part of our continuous efforts to nurture more disciplined and skillful drivers of the future,” said Managing Director Noorizah Hj Abd Hamid at the launch ceremony of the PLUS Yamaha SL Cup (Malaysian Series) 2010 at Persada PLUS today.

“Motorsport involves precision timing, sharp reflexes, quick thinking, decisive action, synchronized movements and car control. Go-karting hones and promotes these skills that are desirable of any driver whether he is in a racing car or a normal road vehicle. We hope to incalculate safe driving values into a whole new generation of future drivers who understand and respect their machines and their own limitations.”

Noorizah added, “Go kart racers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and India will be competing in three categories which are Cadet (8 to 12 years), Junior (12 to 16 years) and Senior (15 years and above.)

“Through this competition, top racers from the Cadet and Junior categories will represent Malaysia to the Yamaha International Go-Kart Challenge at the end of this year and compete against 128 drivers from all over the world.

The Overall Champion of the Cadet Category will walk away with a trophy and a Yamaha KT 100 SEC engine. While the Overall Champion of the Senior Category will receive RM5,000 in cash and a trophy. The winner of the Junior Category will be given a chance to test drive a Formula BMW Pacific race car, sponsored by E Rain Racing

The five-round PLUS Yamaha SL Cup will be held as follows:-

1) Round 1 – Sepang International Go-Kart Circuit (28 March)
2) Round 2 – PLUS Speedway Circuit (11 April)
3) Round 3 – PLUS Speedway Circuit (23 May)
4) Round 4 – Sepang International Go-Kart Circuit (11 July)
5) Round 5 – PLUS Speedway Circuit (17 October)

Noorizah also unveiled “Team PLUS Motorsport” go-karting team at the launch ceremony. Team PLUS Motorsport comprised of Muhammad Nabil Jan Al Jeffri, Syafiq Ali, Suhaizarul Suhaizat and Sheikh Syamiel Sheikh Razak who will be taking part in the competition.

Also present were Tadeshi Sasaki of Japan SL Kartsport Organization and event organizer, Comma Motorsports.
