Melvin, Freddie, and Daim Win at Yamaha SL Cup Malaysia

Melvin Wins

MELVIN MOH took the Plus Yamaha SL Cup Round 2 limelight as he crusied to a double win in the Senior category at the Speedway Plus Circuit today.

The win comes as a delight for the Malaysian who last stepped on the podium in a kart race during the Formula KBS race at the same circuit in August last year. “I had a positive approach to this weekend and kept the momentum going till Race 2.I would to thank the crew and my team mates,” said the RL Karting driver.

It was a sweet battle to the end in the first race as Melvin took the chequered after a close fight with Axle BHP Racing’s Ron Tan to the finishing line. Privateer Kyle James Blockley managed to hold RC Racing Victor Cheong to finish third with the time of 20:02.174s.

Despite strating in eighth spot due to the reverse grid rule, Melvin managed to manouvre to the lead only to hold with a 7.091s lead in Race 2. Kyle James Blockley took the silver medal with a total time of 20:03.827s while third place winner was Ron Tan of Axle BHP Racing.

The Junior category saw Freddie Ang take Race 2 win in style as he also takes the lead in the overall points standings as well. Interestingly, his younger brother Gilbert bagged the Junior class win in the Asian Max Championship in Surayabaya, Indonesia today as well. Nik Azri Syazwi of Rock Racing was second (20;02.406s) while Ken Koda, who was driving for John King Racing snatched the final podium step in 20:04.532s. Syazwan Mohd Noor take the win in 19:53.996s and Danial Roslan of CM Racing coming in second as he registered 19:57.031s in the 25 lap race.

In the Cadet category, Singapore’s Daim Hishammudin got an elusive win as he bagged the Race 2 win with Luqman Hakim of RR Motorsports and his Axle BHP Racing teammate James Pull finishing second and third respectively. Daim’s win also helped him take the lead in the Cadet points category as he shares the top spot with James Pull with both bagging 62 points.

It was a ‘heavy metal’ start for Rock Racing as Maximilan Fewtrell won Race 1 with a total time of 14:37.308s. Daim came in second with a time of 14:42.459s. while RR Motorsport’s Luqman Hakim came in third 14.794s after the winner.
