KRS Win in Surabaya

Afiq Wins

The KRS Motorsports racing team made their way to Surabaya, Indonesia for the 2nd round of the Rotax Asia Zone Challenge. KRS driver Afiq Ikhwan took 2nd in the Senior Max pre-final and went one better in the final to take a commanding victory ahead of Japanese driver Sena Fujita.

The very fast Surabaya track proved a challenge for drivers as slipstreaming played a pivotal role. With a good slipstream being worth 2 tenths per lap it was difficult for any driver to break away from the field. Ikhwan however managed to do just that in the final taking the win with a 1.6 second margin. The battle for 3rd place was intense with Red White Racing driver Silvano Christian (with technical backup from KRS and using an Intrepid Chassis) taking 3rd place followed by KRS driver Mikko Nassi in 4th. Driving his first race this year, KRS driver Ross Green made steady progress and after a difficult start to the weekend managed an 8th place finish in the final.

As the first round winner Nabil Jeffri didn’t take part in the 2nd round, this result has moved Mikko Nassi to the front of the championship while Afiq Ikhwan has rocketed all the way to 2nd place.

Calvin Seibl
In the Junior category Calvin Seibl took 4th place in the pre-final and looked set for another strong finish in the final as he made a good start moving him to 2nd place. He dropped to 4th place and unfortunately he went for an overtaking move that didn’t work dropping him down the field but he managed to recover to 6th of the Asia Max drivers.

Brendan Seibl took part in the MicroMax category and took 4th in the pre-final. In the final he had what was probably the closest finish of the weekend as he was battling for 4th place. He ended up losing the photo-finish by just 8 thousandths of a second!

Overall it was a great weekend for the KRS Racing Team, and great performances from other teams using Intrepid karts made the race an even greater success. Notably Freddy Lawan managed a 2nd place in the Masters category on his Intrepid kart.
