James Pull Battles Back in Final

James Pull

Press Release

Singapore, 15 June 2010 – At the second round of the 2010 Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC) last weekend, Singapore-based race karter James Pull continues his racing foray to circuits outside of Singapore and Malaysia. The 10-year-old Axle BHPetrol Racing driver drove on the Kartodromo De Coloane track in Macau for the first time and despite encountering a few incidents, Pull still managed to finish on the podium in the Mini ROK category.
With only one day of testing on an unfamiliar track, Pull qualified in fourth place but drove well to win Heat 1. He unfortunately did not finish Heat 2 as a coming together with another driver put him into the tyre wall at Turn 1 on the third lap. Undeterred, he pushed hard in Heat 3 and won it.

“The combined results for the three rounds of heats put me in pole position for the pre-final. During the pre-final, the lead swopped many times between several drivers and I eventually finished second, just 0.2 second behind the winner,” Pull said.

Starting in second place on the grid for the final, Pull was running second in the race when he had a collision on Turn 2 during the third lap again. Another driver knocked into him and sent him spinning out, causing him to rejoin the race in last place.

For the remainder of the 15-lap race, Pull determinedly worked his way through the field and at the third last corner on the last lap, he went down the inside, braked late, and took fifth place, the final spot on the podium.

“It was a demanding weekend as I seemed to keep running into incidents. All in all I think I was lucky to have been able to continue racing and to finish fifth in the final was very pleasing. This is all part of racing and it helps to build my experience,” said Pull about the Macau race.

“The team worked very hard all weekend and I am very grateful to them. It was a great result for Team Axle BHPetrol Racing,” he added.

Pull is also racing in the 2010 Yamaha SL Cup Malaysia Series where he is currently second in the cadet category after four rounds. Pull started the Series with tremendous success when he scored a double win at both races of Round 1.

Born in Singapore at Mount Elizabeth Hospital but of English nationality, Pull first tried go-karting at the now-defunct Kart World in September 2008 at the age of eight and he gained attention when he entered the kart racing scene at the young age of nine.

At his first 2009 KKS AAM Malaysian Karting Championship (Formula C) race (Round 3), he took pole position and won both heats, the pre-final and final, and even set the fastest lap in all races. He later went on to win the championship.

Now in overall third place for the Mini ROK category, the next round of AKOC will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia over the weekend of 6 – 8 August 2010.
