British Performance at WSK Round 1

WSK International SeriesTonyKart drivers Will Stevens and Gary Catt made it a British clean sweep of the top two positions in the first round of the WSK series held in La Conca, Italy. Stevens took first in both the pre-final and final ensuring maximum points and Catt came in at second best both times also taking in a massive points haul. With the remaining positions changing around from pre-final to final the British duo earned themselves a healthy points-gap in the championship standings. Jack te Braak took 3rd in the final on his Zanardi.

After a retirement in the pre-final Maranello driver Davide Fore managed to get up from 34th and last on the grid all the way to 8th at the finish! Antonio Piccioni managed a 3rd in the pre-final and a 5th in the final which was enough for him to grab third in the championship standings, but he is a full 11 points behind Gary Catt and 19 points behind Will Stevens.

Unfortunately none of the Asian drivers at the race made it into the final stages of the event. In the KF2 category Tanart Sathienthirakul and Stefano Marcelo both made it into the second chance heat. To make it into the finals they would have had to finish the heat inside the top 6! This was a big ask in itself and with Tanart starting on the 13th row and Stefano on the 16th it would’ve needed something extraordinary. Tanart did pretty well getting all the way up to 16th, but he didn’t have the raw pace to get any higher than that. Stefano ran into trouble very early in the heat and was forced to retire.

In KF3 Mitchell Gilbert had 2 less than impressive heats which put him in 76th overall after the heat races, not enough to take him into the second chance race. Next time around he will have to repeat and improve on his 18th position performance in all the heats to stay with the competition.

Indonesian driver Kevin Susilo is expected to be racing in KF3 at the next WSK round after failing to make it to La Conca due to visa issues.
